Is it Over?
I know this forum has slowed down significantly in the last few weeks....could it be that this "scandal" has finally passed? I think it has. Of course, everytime I think that, something else happens (usually MoC comes back out of the woodwork) to prolong it even further, but this time, it may really be done. At least insofar as ESPN and the national media is concerned.

Over the past month or so, I have heard numerous references to MoC and tOSU on ESPN. I have not heard about the "problems" or the "ongoing investigation" or the "troubling circumstances" in quite a while, however. With Clarett's refusal to participate in the Superbowl weekend exhibition, followed by his slow 40 time, followed by tOSU basketball team's win over Illinois, I have not heard ESPN mention anything at all negative about the University, even off-hand remarks. I believe that the Miles Brand comments of several months ago are finally sinking in, and I believe that ESPN, while they will never issue an apology, are finally moving on and hoping all of this will go away without blowing up in its' collective face. In listening to Mike & Mike, Dan Patrick, SportsCenter, Outside the Lines, and Gameday (to name a few), there has not even been one disparaging remark concerning the Ohio State University.

So you tell me, am I crazy? Is it too soon to hope? Or is this horrific saga finally coming to an end? I mean, we all know that when the NCAA finds tOSU innocent of any wrongdoing, it will garner less airtime than the Southeast England Cricket semifinals. But is it actually over?

They're not stupid. We might hate them for what they did, but they were brilliant marketers for the way they exploited tOSU. Therefore they're not gonna make the mistake of missing out on Texas v tOSU for gameday.

If they continue this new trend of not inserting controversy into every mention of tOSU, they might be welcome on Sep 10. They realize that we are going to be a top team next year and the year to follow. And the basketball team clearly seems to be turning things around and I bet the focus will be on how Matta has turned things around come next season. Expect a change in the focus of ESPiN. They'll never apologize, but they'll drop it.

It's March... no one is thinking about CFB right now... and the steriod story is too good for ESPN to pass up...

No matter what happens between now and the UT game, College Gameday should not be invited.

That said...maybe our new AD will make it an opportunity to turn over a new leaf in tOSU's relationship with ESPN.

Especially if the NCAA goes a little out of its way to comment that not only are we exonerated of all charges, but we are a pretty darn upstanding school, I think it would be to our benefit to allow gameday to come. I would love to stick it to them as much as the next guy, but assuming the NCAA continues to clear us of charges, we will make ourselves look worse by refusing them based on the pre-spring woes of ESPiN.

It seems pretty clear that the tone regarding the bball team will change big time under Matta, and they'd be retarded to not talk about the positives in that situation (whereas up until his arrival there was nothing but mediocre play to counter the negative). And all of us believe Tressel's work on academics will be shown once the stats for his classes make it to graduation rates (as opposed to the flawed APR crap).

So therefore I think tOSU is gonna stop being ransacked by ESPiN soon. Clarett will probably fizzle in teh NFL (many think otherwise, but when was the last time he did not re-lower the bar for himself?), and this will all be behind us. Surely their smear campaign will linger for a while, but I think a Big10 title and no arrests next season will go quite a ways to clearing our name. Who gives a _____ what those tools think. What matters is what recruits think, and I doubt we will see any more recruits turn away from tOSU due to controversy after this year.

BFS I say no way to ESPN this year. These guys have [censored]ed us sans KY and you are going to invite them over for dinner? The OSU fan base will throw the ESPN equipment in the river.
They will be back eventually. But this fall is too soon. There would be a riot and we fans would look boorish (me included).
06-07 I am all for it. But it is too soon for Gameday at Tehas.

I loathe ESPiN and want to screw them. I'm merely speaking of how we will look after 5 months of no negative publicity (*crossing fingers*) if we respond with bitterness.

I want to be able to screw ESPiN. But I don't think that's gonna help moving past the Clarett issue very well, but rather dredge it up again.

That's my take. I wanted no part of them last year, and I don't really want any part of them next year either. But I think it would be best to not bring additional negative publicity on ourselves by feeling persecuted by ESPiN (which most of the country does not care enough to realize is true, therefore they'll see us as whiners and malcontents).

Brilliant marketing? Nonsense. Alienating the largest alumni association in the country and the followers of the largest university in America is good marketing?

It's just 10 weeks since that disgusting display at the Alamo Bowl and we are really willing to say, "aw shucks, as long as they just move on"?

Damn it, I am not! This was a disgusting, malicious and misleading attack on OSU in my opinion. I will not move on until they set the record straight. I don't expect them to own up to their ugly vicious campaign but I do expect them to set out each and every charge and to show that there was no validity to the charge and I expect them to note that they had misrepresented ("perhaps not completely accurate in our reporting of") the facts about OSU.

They've dropped this because they know we are about to be all but exonerated of the charges. The Big Ten has said to lay off and now come out in recent weeks full tilt. The NCAA has all but said that we are the poster child for compliance. Furthermore, it will be revealed that the original investigation was good and that Ohio State does an exemplary and in fact visionary job in the compliance department. OSU will come out of this shining.


Keep ESPiN GameDay out of Ohio State and you send a message that our pride is worth more than their money. They will give in, no matter how big they are, because it is in their financial interest to do so!

We don't need ESPiN, they do need us! No apology, no GameDay! Boycott ESPiN!

ESPN Gameday does not need to set up shop on OSU's campus in order for the chimps in teh studio to engage in their bash fest. Herbie only needs to travel a few hours north on 9/10 to Ann Arbor to sit on a golf course and talk about how great it is the ND has the best O mind in the country. [censored] ESPN.

I never said it was respectable marketing. But its effectiveness is shown by the depth of knowledge we all possess about the lunacy of each article written by ESPiN. Our hatred for them has caused us to spend more time dwelling on theeir articles and learning them inside and out than we ever would have as a casual fan browsing their pages.

And that doesn't count the millions who enjoy reading about a scandal at tOSU, whether that is out of spite or just out of a need for entertainment.

Maybe we can have the best of both words and they can continue their smear campaign, and we can be very justified in saying no (not that we aren't alwasy justified in doing so, I'm just speaking about public perception).
