Its a good thing Mo was taking on tOSU not the government. Any document negative to Mo would have been leaked out in a New York minute. I applaud AG and tOSU for trying to take the high road. Which isn't hard seeing how low ESPN was willing to go!

Let's not forget where a lot of this started. Mr. Mangold's letter touched on it, but the first media outlet to smear tOSU was no less than the New York Times. Using a very questionable source, they attacked the schools credibility, presenting tOSU as just another football factory. It makes me wonder why the media is so much after the Buckeyes in the first place.

I really think that when people and institutions are successful while maintaining a good clean image, its seems to be our national pastime to try to tear them down, to expose their flaws, to show they're just like everybody else. ESPiN is no different than the "real media" in this regard, although possibly more agressive about it.

I really do think that JT is a good Christian man, running a clean program, at a reputable school with a tradition that rivals any in football. Now throw in one of the greatest Cinderalla seasons of all time. This is what our media loves to bring down. For starters, let's face it, the East Coast media elites tend to look down their noses on those living in the "flyover states". And the fact of the matter is, you dig deep enough at any institution, you can find enough ammunition to mount a smear campaign. Their stories take on a life of their own, where the media's sole purpose is to bolster their story, not report the truth, or provide a proper context. And they love every minute of it. When they get bored with it, they move on to the next victim.

(Ironically, the same thing is beginning to happen to the great media personalities themselves as bloggers have become increasingly effective over the last couple of years at exposing their dirty little secrets. Paybacks are indeed a bitch).

The bottom line is this too will pass. Some other poor school will get the next expose'. I just hope we have learned that when its happening to someone else, we shouldn't be buy into it any more than we do now.

Absolutely incredible! At first, when I started reading the story, I thought it would be a short and swift rebuttal to what Mr. Corsoe was saying. But, after reading Mr. Mangolds' response, It made my chest swell with pride to be a
buckeye fan. I Have realized, as a buckeye fan, all along, the onslaught of negative publicity that ESpin has been casting on the general football fan base about Buckeye football. What a shame that espn, has resorted to that kind of stupidity for ratings! Maurice C. has dug his own hole. The talent he had, was rare, but wasted on the perception that there is an "I" in "Team". To those who are not swayed by the misrepresentation of espn. I congratulate you on seeing the big picture! We are the buckeye nation, no one can take that away. Again, thank you Mr. Mangold for telling it like it is. "The Truth".

The NY Times article was first only if you discount the ESPN the Ragazine issue with MoC throwing the jersey on the cover from sometime in October, 2002. That was the first media effort to sensationalize MoC/tOSU in any negative way that I can recall.

VL exemplifies a loyal, truthful, honorable Buckeye dad.

I can only hope, in the long run, espin truly pays for besmerching our Bucks.

Isn't it tragic that the original nytimes writer was fired last year for falsifying other subsequent writings for that loosely run news outlet. And who in the world knows the where abouts of the student assistant used as the "original source?"

All of this is the genesis of all the pervasive garbage pushed on espin.

I wince to think of AG and JT being accused of malfeasance.

Thanks for a great writeup exposing the truth about ESPiN without losing focus like many of us would have due to our bitter emotions on the subject. Hopefully you did not mind that I copied your post from BN as I felt it had to be shared with as many people as possible (it also circled the ESPiN message boards as well).

Eager to see the short version appear in the paper. If they decline, I sure hope another newspaper would run the column for you. It is much better than anything I've seen written on the coverage by ESPiN.

Personally, I think I'd only settle for the original uncut version.
VLMarti put great effort into making an extraordinarily persausive rebuttal of all the slime and muck-raking he (and we) have endured these past couple of years. Cliff noting not required for his piece, in my opinion. Perhaps a bound version of the whole thing can be put up for sale in Long's on High Street.

As the DDN won't handle it in full, I'd suggest to Mr. Mangold that he forward a copy to the other news organizations, media outllets, regional and national newspaper's -- in the form of a press release on behalf of the organization he now leads.
