2.1 Football

Description: All things football, as per individual forum descriptions. This is a CATEGORY - Not an actual forum, but a description of the forums contained within this category. This category contains the forums (and their sub-forums): Buckeyes, Buckeye Alumni, Recruiting, Mili's Video Clips, Graphics, Professional, and Rumor Mill. Descriptions and links below.

2.1.1 Buckeyes

Description: Ohio State football, moderated. Consider this the general community forum, but with a theme. Completely off-topic chatter should start at, or move to, the Open Discussion forum.

Type: FORUM - Contains one ‘child’ forum - Ticket Forum


What to Expect: This is the main forum at BuckeyePlanet and the first forum created when the site opened. Most members will check this board upon each visit as any major news concerning the Buckeyes and the site in general will be posted here first. You will find all the regulars on this board and you will find they have strong opinions. You’ll also find a vast wealth of knowledge concerning the Buckeyes (past and present) and an eagerness to discuss and debate even the most minute detail concerning Buckeye football. The majority of regulars on this board have been around the online community for years. They are friendly, but they will have little time for duplicate threads. They’ve seen them all before. Use the search function first before starting a new thread. If you find a thread covering your topic, post your thoughts there before starting a new one. There is only so many times someone can read a new thread titled “Why Notre Dame should join the Big Ten”. You will also find a surprising number of rival fans that have earned our respect and post here frequently. They are our guests. We expect them to act like guests, but we also expect our members to treat them like a guest.

Rules & Guidelines: Bashing of any member of the Ohio State community is not tolerated, nor is trolling or flaming from rival fans. Keep all chatter related to College Football and more specifically, Ohio State Football.

Language: Some Restrictions. Cursing is allowed, but keep it to a bare minimum. This is the second most regulated forum at BuckeyePlanet because the full range of members will frequent this area. There are other areas of the site that are better suited to tirades. Keep in mind that current players, recruits, staff, family members and friends will be on this forum from time to time. We are Buckeyes and our tact and civility should be on display at all times on this forum.

Description: Post the tickets you have and the tickets you need here.

What to Expect: This is a recent addition to the BuckeyePlanet forums. Ticket request were beginning to clutter the Buckeye Football forum. This only looked to become more of an issue, not less, so the Ticket Forum was added. You will find Buckeye fans that are in need of tickets to the game or have extra tickets to unload. BuckeyePlanet is NOT an auction site, nor are we here to facilitate the sale or purchase of tickets. We simply provide a conduit for information. Please discuss ALL details via Private Message or E-mail. How you choose to handle the exchange of tickets is your affair, not ours.

What to Expect: As the description suggests, keep up to date on former Buckeye football players.

2.1.3 Recruiting

Description: OSU football recruiting, moderated. Post responsibly and with respect for players and coaches. Rumors and speculation should be clearly labeled as such.

Type: FORUM - Contains three ‘child’ forums - 2004 Recruiting, 2005 Recruiting, High School Football Updates

What to Expect: One of the earliest forums created on BuckeyePlanet, the Recruiting Forums generates a lot of traffic. You will find some of the hardest working members of the site in this forum. You’ll recognize them from other parts of the board, but they spend a great deal of time here updating information on prospective recruits. Because many recruits and coaches (and their family and friends) frequent this area of BuckeyePlanet, it is the most heavily regulated forum. The last thing we would like to happen is for some comments to adversely affect a prospective recruit’s decision to attend Ohio State. There are NCAA regulations to consider as well. What seems like an innocent post to some could in fact violate NCAA by-laws and adversely affect Ohio State as well.

Please take some time to familiarize yourself with the accepted customs on the Recruiting Forum. Generally speaking, this forum is an information repository. Articles and news from across the country are categorized and sorted into individual player (recruiting prospect) threads. If you have something to add, please feel free, but be warned. Conjecture has a limited appeal to the ‘recruitniks’ that frequent this forum. The regulars are always looking for some insight into the recruiting process of individual players. Some reasoned conclusions are permitted here, but make sure to back up any opinions with reason. Simply stating that your ‘gut’ is telling you “recruit X won’t be coming to OSU” won’t fly on this forum. For the most part, cold hard facts, verified reports, and credible news articles rule the day in the Recruiting Forum. Opinions, conjecture and speculation should mostly be removed from your posts. Have fun, and along the way, you will meet some great folks and encounter a vast amount of knowledge and data concerning Ohio State Recruiting.

Rules & Guidelines: No cursing ... period. Bashing of any recruit, or member of the Ohio State community is not tolerated ... period. Nor is trolling or flaming from rival fans. Warning points will be given out immediately. Do not post premium information from other sites. Summaries of this information, with a link, are as far as we can legally go. Don't hijack a player's thread, if you feel the subject matter moving away from the player, you are only causing the Moderators more work. This forum is about the kids first. Do not try to contact or influence a recruit on this board. While it is acceptable to relate the strengths of the Ohio State University in a general way, please do not cross the line and start begging, pleading, cajoling, etc. recruits to become Buckeyes. Not only is such conduct often counterproductive (the school and the football program should be able to "sell" themselves, and the coaching staff doesn't really need your help), it could also be a violation of NCAA recruiting rules. All "open letters" to recruits will be deleted. Negativity about a recruit, although not bashing the player, needs to be handled with care. There is not a problem with stating feelings about a recruit's possibilities of going elsewhere. However, please make sure that the post fits into the flow of conversation. Opinions will vary following various updates and are welcome in the forums. This, however, does not mean a poster should make a definite proclamation out of the blue or consistently interject their negative thoughts over and over. If you are convinced of a player going elsewhere and are not involved in the updates being provided, simply read the thread and pass on the posting.

What to Expect: This forum is generally a holding area for threads on recruiting prospects from the 2004 year. These threads were originally started in the main Recruiting Forum, but moved here for storage once the 2004 recruiting season ended. In all other aspects, you should expect the same things as you will find in the Recruiting Forum.

2.1.3.4 High School Football Updates

Description: A forum for weekly updates of games in Ohio and in regards to recruiting targets of tOSU.

Type: FORUM - This is a ‘child’ forum (or sub-forum) of the Recruiting Forum

What to Expect: This forum is generally for updates on high school games, including all-star games. This includes updates on high school players who are not OSU recruits, and general talk about high school football, including rivalries, computer rankings, all-star teams, OHSAA rulings, etc. The membership wanted the recruiting threads on the individual players to be "related to their recruitment" and not what they did this past Friday or Saturday night, or high school related, so in order to achieve that and also keep our dedicated posters informed of their high school info, a sub forum was created ... this forum. This format was slightly altered to its present form: A thread on each high school team rather than each player. So in one thread, you may follow all the news from each school (such as the Cincinnati Colerain Cardinals for example) and their related players. In all other aspects, you should expect the same things as you will find in the Recruiting Forum.

2.1.4 Mili's Video Clips

Description: Limited access because of bandwidth restraints on his server, this is Mili's group as defined by him.

Type: FORUM - Contains five ‘child’ forums - 2005 Game Clips, 2004 Game Clips, 2003 and Earlier Game Clips, Highlight/Compilation Clips, and Other Clips

What to Expect: The main forum (Mili's Video Clips) is mostly a conduit to the child forums. This is an area of BuckeyePlanet that was created as a space for one of our members (MililaniBuckeye) to host video clips of Buckeye football. In a general sense, this forum and all the related ‘child’ forums are MililaniBuckeye’s to oversee and regulate. You will find excellent video of many Buckeye games categorized in the ‘child’ forums. MililaniBuckeye’s opening “What this forum is” post sums up what you can expect:

As you may know, I have been making clips of most of our big plays this season...most of which have been supplied by Ginn and Holmes, but also includes others (Zwicks two TD bombs against Marshall--which were coincidentally caught by Holmes, Mo Hall's long TD run at MSU, Gonzo's TD bomb in The Game, Matthew's pre-game whoop-up before The Game, etc.). I set up my own site to host all these clips to keep a burden off of C-Dog's already saturated server, and to allow myself quick access to upload clips once I make them. While my site has a pretty generous storage capability (600 MB) and monthly bandwidth (60GB, I think), I want to limit access to these clips for three reasons:

1.) To keep my site costs reasonable
2.) To make sure you can get to clips at any time without having to wait
3.) Most importantly, I want to keep this "in-house" to BP members only

What I'll most likely do is post clip links in threads devoted to the game from which they were taken, i.e., the clip of Ginn's reverse TD, punt TD, and quick slant TD, along with Hall's TD, from the MSU game would be in a thread called "2004 MSU clips". Obviously, not all games will have clips (this year's Iowa game comes to mind).

NOTE: The following paragraph is now incorrect. At first, the Clips forum was accessed only by approved members. Since that time the access has been opened to all members at BuckeyePlanet.

I do ask that you not share the links with anyone outside of this forum. Right now, forum "membership" is highly limited in that we just started this. I'll be asking C-Dog to add folks on a piecemeal basis, and maybe he can set it up to where I can also add folks so he doesn't have to.

I hope you will find enjoyment from the clips placed in here, and here's looking to next season filled with clips of Buckeye big plays.

2.1.5 Graphics

Description: Temporary central location for all OSU wallpapers, farks, logos, pics, etc.

Type: FORUM

What to Expect: Here you will find the visually oriented Buckeye fan. Pictures, wallpapers, farks and other great material were flooding the regular Buckeye Football forum in the not too distant past. It was decided that a central location for all this material was needed, not only to easy the burden on the general football forum, but to keep many of these classic graphics easily accessible. Want to share something you've created? This is the place. Maybe you're not as talented in the graphic arts but would like a nice avatar or signature picture. You'll find that it never hurts to ask one of the folks on this forum for help. There is a ton of knowledge here to be tapped. In addition to the welth of information, if you ask nicely (and they have the time available) they will often create something for you. Many of the graphics you see around BuckeyePlanet were created by the gurus that inhabit the Graphic forum.

Rules & Guidelines: Please respect the creative rights of the folks who work very hard to make this material available to Buckeye fans. Some things you will find on this forum are copyrighted and you will need to ask permission for their use.

Description: Moderated. NFL, CFL, NFLE, Arena, Arena2, former Buckeyes all fair game.

What to Expect: One of the earliest forums here at BuckeyePlanet, the Professional Football forum is for the discussion of all pro leagues. Generally the NFL teams closest to central Ohio are topics of conversation (Bengals, Browns, Steelers, etc.), but you'll find threads on all pro versions of football. In addition, you'll find many updates on former OSU players now in the paid ranks.

Rules & Guidelines: While this forum can produce some of the most 'heated' threads due to professional team rivalries, we ask that all members do their best to remain civil and courteous to other members.

2.1.7 Rumor Mill

Description: This is the one and only forum appropriate for rumors related to the Ohio State Athletic Department, obviously to include (even focus on) the football program. You must be a member of the 'Millers' subgroup to participate.

Type: FORUM

What to Expect: Some folks just love to trade gossip, while others hate it. Frankly, too many unsubstantiated 'stories' were cluttering the main Football forum. Try as we might to control it, some folks just couldn't help but post the rumors floating around town. Heck, many folks love to hear a good tale, even if it is only a tale. On the other hand, quite a few 'insiders' roam BuckeyePlanet and are accurate more often than not when relaying 'gossip'. So this forum was created to give a voice to those on the inside and those that 'think' they are on the inside. Tales that haven't been confirmed by news agencies and tales that will never be confirmed by anyone. Enjoy the read, but take it with a grain of salt.

Rules & Guidelines: Bashing of any member of the Ohio State community is not tolerated, nor is trolling or flaming from rival fans. Clearly label all rumors and heresay as such. If a rumor becomes a confirmed fact, then the title will be changed and moved to the appropriate forum. If a rumor is refuted, the title will be so designated and the thread will be left to 'die' in the Rumor Mill forum.
