This is a CATEGORY - Not an actual forum, but a description of the forums contained within this category. This category contains the forums (and their sub-forums): Other OSU and Professional Sports, Open Discussion, Administrative, Testing Grounds and Reference Locker. Descriptions and links below.

2.4.1 Other OSU and Professional Sports

Description: Non-specific moderated forum for any and all OSU or pro sports not covered within their own forums. Including recruiting, in-game updates and former players. If you would like to see a sport get its own forum, simply demonstrate demand through a poll.

Type: FORUM

What to Expect: Do you love to talk golf, or wrestling, or track and field? Maybe you would like something else. Then this is your forum. This is the 'catch-all' forum for sports not covered in other forums at BuckeyePlanet. You'll find a wide range of interests and topics to include the Buckeyes, colleges in general and professional sports. If a particular sport creates a large volume of traffic or interest, it will be considered for creation of it's own forum. Use the search function first before starting a new thread. If you find a thread covering your topic, post your thoughts there before starting a new one.

Rules & Guidelines: Bashing of any member of the Ohio State community is not tolerated, nor is trolling or flaming from rival fans. Keep all chatter related to sports (college or professional) not covered by any other forums at BuckeyePlanet.

Language: Some Restrictions. Cursing is allowed, but keep it to a bare minimum. Keep in mind that current players, recruits, staff, family members and friends will be on this forum from time to time. We are Buckeyes and our tact and civility should be on display at all times on this forum.

2.4.2 Open Discussion

Description: Open-topic moderated forum. Any topic (within reason) is appropriate here as long as they can be discussed with at least a degree of tact, civility, and respect for differing opinions.

Type: FORUM. Contains five 'child' forums. Romper Room, Political Conversation and Debate, Gaming, Computers, Home Theater and Technology and the AVF Forum (avsforum.com)

What to Expect: The Open Discussion forum has been a staple of the BuckeyePlanet community from the beginning. It is 'the' place to discuss all topics that aren't Buckeye sports related. Topics run the whole gamut, goofy, fun, entertaining, though provoking, and just plain weird. You'll find a little something for everyone. We are a diverse group and have diverse interests. Like many of the other forums, you will find a tight knit group of regulars on this forum. They have an intimate knowledge of one another and will often engage in long running jokes or comments that seem to come from left field. This is due to a long shared history. So if you don't understand something or posts seem to be inappropriate, don't fret. Take some time to get to know the long standing members. Dig around and 'discover' some of the 'history' being discussed before diving into uncharted waters. You may just save yourself some embarrassment. This place (more than any other), is where Buckeye fans can kick back and relax. So enjoy yourself and the Buckeye community.

2.4.2.1 Romper Room

Description: Few rules or limits. PM MililaniBuckeye or RAMdrvr1 if you desire access.

What to Expect: The Romper Room is a password restricted forum. Due to COPPA restrictions, no one under the age of 18 may enter this forum. There are no set rules and no set limits. So, enter at your own risk. This forum was added to give the less politically correct side of our personality a place to express itself. You will see scantily clad women, inappropriate language and off color jokes. You might even catch members engaged in a 'flame' war. Whatever the case, view this forum as the BuckeyePlanet 'pressure valve'. A safe place to vent outside of the public forums.

This is the original post from Clarity regarding the Romper Room: What happens in this forum, stays in this forum. No one holds me responsible for anything posted in here, lol, if you come in, then you have to be prepared to see or hear anything. Which is not to encourage lewd and lascivious behavior necessary, but the whole point of this forum is to afford an "anything goes" atmosphere quietly away from the folks who would rather not see it. It should be fun, just keep it all legal. lol.

Rules & Guidelines: Unrestricted ... to a point. We do not want this to become a triple X pornographic forum, nor a breeding ground for racism or hate. If you need to 'let loose', then this is the place. It is NOT a safe haven to glorify the 'vices' of humanity. When does it cross the line? That's difficult to say, but if you only visit BuckeyePlanet for the Romper Room, then another site might be more to your liking.

2.4.2.2 Political Conversation and Debate

Description: Some people want to talk or even argue politics, other's don't. Let's see if we can apply some reason and understanding to the debate.

Type: FORUM

What to Expect: Originally a temporary forum, Political Conversation and Debate has evolved into one of the mainstays at BuckeyePlanet. Opened before the 2004 elections, it was intended that this forum would be eliminated shortly thereafter. It's popularity and usefulness to our members earned it a permanent status. Of all the forums at BuckeyePlanet, this one contains the most potential for problems. In fact, it was almost closed on several occasions. Philosophies and beliefs will often be directly opposed to one another and can lead to very 'heated' arguments. Please respect the hard work and thoughtfulness of the long time posters on the forum. They have found a way to remain civil and turn these difficult exchanges into learning experiences. You will find folks to the 'left' of the isle, others to the 'right', some right down the 'middle, and frankly, some we're just not sure. This has been a great place to keep current with political news and views and gain some insight to the whole political process.

Rules & Guidelines: Please keep all discussions and debates civil and rational. On many threads there will be a direct conflict between philosophies and beliefs, don't let that prevent you from remaining civil to the other members. You will be expected to defend your views and rationally debate the issues. Simply repeating 'party' dogma will not fly for long on this forum ... as you will soon find out. Those that come to further the discussion are welcome, those that come to flame and troll will be shown the door.

Description: Sports console and PC gaming (NCAA 2005, Madden, March Madness, etc.). Fantasy sports chatter.

What to Expect: A fairly recent addition to the BuckeyePlanet forums, Gaming was created when a large number of members expressed an interest in discussing this segment of the sports/gaming world. You will find threads covering all aspects of gaming: Fantasy leagues, Console games (Xbox, PS2, etc.), PC gaming, Online gaming, etc. Need to discuss the latest game release, a secret code, or creation of a fantasy league? This is your home.

Rules & Guidelines: Please keep all discussions focused on the topic of 'gaming'. All 'real world' sports should be discussed on their own forums.

Description: Need help with your computer? Want to learn about the latest advances in technology? Are you an audio/videophile? Need help hooking up your home theater? This is the forum for you.

What to Expect: It began innocently enough. Someone posted a helpful hint about computer viruses. Then another comment on system performance. Soon there was a flood of technical information to help all sorts of computer users in all manner of need. Quickly it branched out to audio and video equipment. Soon just technology in general. Well, we need a separate forum for all this good insight ... Computers, Home Theater & Technology is the place. Have a question about large screen displays, or surround sound, or video cards, or ... you get the idea. If it deals with technology, the technophiles that frequent the forum will speak your language.

Here's the introductory post: This forum will be used to help all of the members of BP with computers/technical questions. We have a very solid group of guys here that really have a wide collection of knowledge.

On this forum you can ask for help related to ANYTHING technical (computers, home entertainment, cell phones, PDA's, ect). Also we will be having Tips & Tricks on a regular basis, just a way to help people out from what some of us have learned the hard way.

Please feel free to post technology related stories, trends, or personal experiences.

Is a feature not working properly? Note it here. Is a link broken? Do you need to ask a question of the staff? This is the place to contact the staff. Additionally, the staff uses this forum to track upgrades and keep a list of tasks that need to be accomplished at BuckeyePlanet. View this as the 'catch all' forum for any topic dealing with the operation of BuckeyePlanet.

What to Expect: This forum is not open to the general membership for posting of threads. Only members of the staff or the writing/blog team may post threads inside this forum, although members are free to respond to threads started on this forum. Generally speaking, this forum is a simple conduit to the 'front page' at BuckeyePlanet. The two most recent threads in this forum are displayed on the front page at BuckeyePlanet and the next five threads are given a 'link' on the front page. This forum started as a place to post just the news articles (surrounding Buckeye sports) from each day. A separate feature at BuckeyePlanet (the Blog/Article section) was used to display articles written by BuckeyePlanet members. This feature has been inactive since our last software upgrade, so the News Forum has also been used to display these articles on the front page. It is unclear if this system (Blog/Articles) will be reinstalled as it will require some custom coding to work with our upgraded software.

Rules & Guidelines: Only staff and members of the blog/writing team may post threads in this forum. Other members are free to post responses to those threads.

Description: Storage area for front page news items.

Type: FORUM.

What to Expect: This is not a forum in the general sense that anyone would begin threads and posts here. It is simply a storage area where News, Articles and Blogs are moved for archival purposes. You will find sub-forums for each year (starting in 2004), and within those sub-forums you will find further sub-forums for each month of that year. You might access this forum to search for news stories from the 2005 season, or an article written by one of the BuckeyePlanet bloggers, etc. In recent months this forum has been used for archival purposes for a wide range of threads from all our forums. Generally, to keep the other forums streamlined, the News Archive is being used as the 'filing cabinet' for BuckeyePlanet. For example, game threads normally found in the football forum, are moved here once they are no longer current. Basically you can find all 'dated' threads in their respective sub-forums within the News Archive.

What to Expect: This forum was originally opened for the storage of threads that we wanted to keep easily accessible (because they were good). It has also grown to include those threads that we don't really care to see anymore (because they were bad). So while the intent has been somewhat subverted, it is a place to find those threads that we loved ... and hated ... or just grew tired of seeing.

Rules & Guidelines: While posting isn't prohibited on this forum, it is generally unneeded and unwanted. Let the past stay in the past. These threads have run their course and are generally sent here (good or bad) as a final resting ground.

What to Expect: You will find the official "game thread" for each opponent during each football season. Curious about the prevailing attitudes and thoughts before the 2004 game with North Carolina State? You'll find that (and all other games) in this set of forums.

Rules & Guidelines: Generally, each official "game thread" is moved to the Buckeye Football forum the week before each game. There folks can discuss (at length) the upcoming opponent and our Buckeyes. Shortly after each game, the thread is moved back to the Season Capsules storage area. The issues discussed here are long dead, but to see where we are going it is helpful to see where we've been. It's not always pretty, but it is honest ... brutally so at times.
