FWIW, Sweat's teammate Mike Yancich committed to PSU (about a week ago, but just went public last night)...
Quote:
Penn State Lands Trinity LB
TrinityHigh School linebacker MIKE YANCICH, rated by Keystone Recruiting as the No. 11 player in Pennsylvania, made a verbal commitment to PennState tonight at a press conference at the high school.
The 6’2” 220 pound Yancich chose the Nittany Lions over Pitt, West Virginia, MichiganState and Connecticut. Yancich is the second Trinity linebacker to commit to the Big Ten this year, as Yancich’s more heralded teammate Andrew Sweat committed to OhioState a few weeks ago.
But Trinity head coach Ed Dalton had been telling recruiting writers for the past two years that Sweat wasn’t his only top linebacker, and now he has been proven right. Yancich is blessed with excellent speed, strength and athletic ability, and some think his all-around game is even better than that of his teammate.
“He can easily move up by the end of the year,” says Joe Butler of Metro Index. “He’s a horse. He can run like crazy and he’s built like a brick wall.”
Yancich was a WPIAL Class AAA all-Big Seven Conference selection last season. He is PennState’s fourth recruit in the class of 2008, and the third linebacker – all of whom are named Michael. Yancich joins Ohio’s Mike Zordich and Louisiana’s Michael Mauti at linebacker, and BlueMountain offensive lineman Matt Stankiewitch as member’s of PennState’s recruiting class.

PSU missing in battle for local talent
10/12/2007
Make your name known early. Make a good impression. Make someone feel important.
 It's called good recruiting.
Seems like you can't walk the sideline at Scranton Memorial Stadium these days without almost accidentally bumping into a big-time college football coach doing some good recruiting of their own.
A few weeks ago, Rutgers coach Greg Schiano choppered in. Last week, it was Pittsburgh coach Dave Wannstedt. Neither was allowed by NCAA rules to talk about why they were there, but it's no coincidence that both showed up for West Scranton games, and that Hubie Graham plays for West Scranton.
Graham is leading the charge, a four-star tight end prospect as rated by Rivals.com who has received more than 20 scholarship offers. But the Lackawanna Football Conference, right now, might have more Division I talent on the field than it ever has.
Graham is a stud, but Pittsburgh also has shown interest in West quarterback Matt McGloin, who threw for 340 yards last week. West offensive lineman Eric Shrive, a 6-foot-7, 280-pound tackle, has received offers from three schools - Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Syracuse. And here's guessing two or three more local players will be getting some serious Division I interest before signing day in February.
The point is, Wannstedt and Pittsburgh were hot on Graham's trail long before his senior season began, and they are blatantly putting the same full-court press on Shrive. Just as clearly, Schiano is trying to make the same type of inroads in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
My question: Where is Penn State?

Pittsburgh Gazette
Buckeyes make impact
Tuesday, April 22, 2008
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
<<p> Mike White takes a look at Ohio State's football recruiting in Western Pennsylvania, and Gateway's load of talent:
It should come as no surprise Ohio State has landed another top player from Western Pennsylvania this week. Looking back at recent recruiting classes, the Buckeyes seem to get a player from the WPIAL almost every year.
Ohio State's most recent recruit from the WPIAL is Gateway junior linebacker Dorian Bell, who made a verbal commitment to the Buckeyes Monday. Last month, Ohio State signed Jeannette senior quarterback Terrelle Pryor, ranked the No. 1 player in the country by some scouting services.
Also from the class of 2008, Ohio State signed Trinity linebacker Andrew Sweat. In 2007, Ohio State signed offensive lineman Evan Blankenship of Center. In 2006, Trinity tight end-offensive lineman Andrew Miller was an Ohio State recruit. In 2004, Ohio State signed two WPIAL players -- Woodland Hills receiver Devon Lyons and Beaver tight end Rory Nicol.

PSU Puke
Do you guys consider tOSU the team to beat for Chris Watt's services? I saw this little tidbit and was wondering whether or not it was too late for Penn State to get involved. I know ND, UM, Illinois and others are also after Chris as well.
"In addition to Notre Dame, Watt plans to visit Ohio State and Penn State this summer."
