HANOVER -- Much has been made of Storm Klein's increased playing time on the defensive side of the ball.
While the Licking Valley junior has been another addition to an already terrorizing defense, Klein's offensive opportunities have been limited.
It is for good reason --the Panthers (8-1, 6-0) hope to have a long second season. Valley coach Randy Baughman, however, gave fans a sneak peek to what the playoff formula could be on Fridays in November.
Klein had a season-high 23 carries for 186 yards rushing and four touchdowns in the Panthers' 32-0 victory against visiting Newark Catholic (7-2, 5-1) to wrap up the Mid-State League-Ohio Division title.
"(Baughman) is always on me about getting the ball more," Klein said. "Other backs can get the ball 47 times, play on defense. Coach works on me like that, but he gave me kind of an idea."
Klein carried the ball on all five plays of Valley's opening drive, which covered 60 yards and ended in the end zone. On the first drive of the second half, Klein carried on 10 of the first 11 plays, leading to a Nick Phillips scoring run.
Klein's numbers might have been higher had he not missed a portion of the first half with what appeared to be a cramp or a strain in his calf.

HANOVER -- Licking Valley standout linebacker and running back Storm Klein will be a game-time decision for tonight's Division III playoff opener against Granville.
Klein, who verbally committed to Ohio State last month, has been bothered by a knee injury in recent weeks.

In todays Advocate Coach Baughman says he expects Storm to be ready to go this Friday against West Branch. Last week he went from not playing at all on Tuesday to a game time decision Friday so the rest is doing its job. He told coach B several times Friday night he was ready when ever they needed him. Fortunately his back up had over 200 and 4 tds, and Storm was able to take the night off. I expect given another full week of rest Storm will be ready to get it on Friday.

WOOSTER The West Branch Warriors couldn't weather the storm.
Licking Valley running back Storm Klein lived up to his billing by bulldozing the Warriors for four touchdowns and 195 yards rushing to power the Panthers to a 35-21 victory in Friday's Division III high school football regional semifinal game at Follis Field. Licking Valley will play Northwest next Friday in a regional final.
"They're big and strong," West Branch head coach Bob Altenhof said. "I think we did a decent job. (Klein) had a couple of big runs that just killed us."
