In state recruiting by top programs

According to rivals rankings by state

below are how some of the nations top programs did in their in-state recruiting this year so far....

results show that OSU does a fantastic job instate and people seem to focus on mixed results oos without understanding how good we do in locking down the talent in one of the most talent rich states in the nation.

OSU: verbals from 6 of top 10 and 8 of top 13 players in Ohio (the only recruit that we offered and didn't land in this group was #1 Ben Martin)

scUM: verbals from 1 of top 10 and none of top 9 (assuming RoJo goes elsewhere)

Tenn: 3 of top 10 with 3 others not committed, 7 of top 15

VT: 3 of top 10 and 6 of top 14

Texas: 5 of top 10, 2 uncommitted, 9 of 15... also let #1 player leave the state

UF: 4 of top 10, 2 uncommited, 6 of top 15

USC: 6 of top 10 9 of 15 ...lost #1 to ND

OKlahoma: 3 of top 10, 5 of 15

LSU: 5 of top 10 , 5 uncommitted including 4 of top 6 uncommitted...haven't lost any top 10 yet, pretty amazing

PSU: 4 of top 10 6 of 15...lost #1 derrick morgan to GT

UGA: 3 of top 10, 4 of top 15

If we land 90% in-state next year we will all be ecstatic. Throw in a couple of marquee OOS kids like Washington, Heyward, Scott and Rolle and you still have a heck of a class. Maybe not the greatest when it came to filling needs, but that is more a reflection of the lack of POWER prospect in-state. OSU is always going to recruit Ohio first and foremost.

I think this deserves to be in the main recruiting forum...nice work Shaker.

And there are those who say Tressel can't recruit.... He continues to keep a fence around Ohio players and has kept the focus on keeping in state players. This was definitely a weakness in the Cooper era.

As for area of need, I see more ATH's in this class that could play multiple positions than I have in the past. I think this gives flexibility to the staff.

To put this in perspective, we really don't have any in-state D-1 competition.

Besides which you have plenty of border raiders with which to contend.

The fact that 3 of the top programs in all of college football(scUM, ND, PSU) are in bordering states(with WVU and Louisville on the rise) can look very attractive to recruits. We by no means have "no competition" when it comes to recruiting Ohio. We just have the advantage with most kids in Ohio growing up as Buckeyes.
