Weight: 225 pounds
Forty: 4.8 seconds
Shuttle: 4.53 seconds
Bench max: 260 pounds
Squat max: 350 pounds

2006 stats: 60 tackles, 10 sacks
Class: 2008 (High School)
Scout profile
Many offers from southern schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Miami, Georgia Tech, Lousiville, North Carolina, South Carolina. From the same school as former Buckeye recruit and 2007 Georgia Tech signee Nic Claytor.
OSU Scout - Bill Greene - 05/02/07
Offered by Ohio State. Coach Fickell visited his school today and delivered the offer.
My take: He expressed interest in the Buckeyes, but just look at that offer list - the who's who of southern football powers. One to keep an eye on, especially if he schedules an official visit to Columbus.

Well even with the low number of schollies the staff is keeping us on our toes, with some new offers, and not allowing us to figure out how many they may be looking at in certain positions...
Just a blind guess here, but maybe with teh recent visit from Tressel to Koger, and then 2 offers to Couples and Wells, might say that the staff is looking for another DE and that they don't feel good with their chances on Koger...Also with the staff trying to pursue a 2nd DE could also mean that they know of someone transferring, leaving early(Gholston) or not happy with the production from the DE's...

Thats the way the article makes it sound...It could be a we are watching you type, or an offer to see how much interest he really has, but it says that we offered...

I'm going with "official offer" for now. Fickell supposedly delivered it in person, and Bill Greene is usually dead on with his info.

Personally, I don't think offers being sent out in April and May have much to do with how the staff feels about other players on their board. Over on Scout, as soon as an offer goes out people are on there asking Bob, Greg and nevada if this means that the staff does not feel good about their chances with someone else. I don't think that is the case, especially in May...if the staff deems a kid worthy of an offer, even if it is a token offer, then they are going to offer. People assume that Nathan Williams got an offer because the staff did not feel confident about Koger. Why would the staff continue to recruit Koger then (seeing as though JT was at his school the other day) knowing that the minute they offered Nathan he would accept? It just doesn't make sense.
Now as for the other theories put forth by my colleague crazybuckfan40, these recent offers may be more a reflection of the staff's feelings about the current production we are getting out of our DEs. I know the staff is preparing for all scenarios, but it is tough to determine whether or not Gholston is a flight risk at this point. He could get hurt tomorrow and miss his entire junior season (knock on wood).
