It seems Rivals base everything on the film and the combines. Basing a lot on a player's film would usually be a good thing, but when you are already committed to the school of your choice (so there's no need to attract new offers) and the recruiting service only has footage of ONE game where he stands out but doesn't jump out of the TV screen at you, you get Johnny Simon barely staying in the top 100 and Mike Adams having to "work his way back into" the top 100. They need to consider some other things as well, such as what schools have offered, among other things. Coaches are the REAL recruiting experts, not these self-proclaimed ones at these recruiting websites.

Simon's got a pretty diverse portfolio as far as film goes. I suggest these recruiting sites find it and watch it.

And you wonder why the "star system" is flawed... ::Illinois poster takes notes::

The thing that gets me is when it is continually three or four schools that have the same beef every year and three or four that think the rankings are great...

Their rankings of Ohio are just not very good...The consensus number one player the last two years has been no where near where they should be and people continue to tell these hacks this and they don't listen and continue to say they look bad on film...Well if that was the case Isiah Pead would of been the best player in Ohio last year...You have to evaluate other things than just film and not punish kids that don't come out to combines...

Look at kids that get early offers, schools that offered him, what do they usually know...

Now I am not saying just because tOSU offered Adam Homan they should up him to be in the top 100, but what I am saying is look at Givens offer list, every top school would love to have him, no school really said we have 3 other guys higher on the board and we aren't going to offer you...He had 20+ offers from the best in the countrynot just two or three big offers, but about all the schools that made the BCS in their region...If a guy gets an offer from schools like Michigan, PSU, Notre Dame tOSU in the midwest they are a top 250 player...That along with film, along with seeing these guys in person, etc. should go into the evaluation...

the problem is the final say on most of these kids is made by the southern homers that run that site. so mike farrell going to the mat for mike adams, only to watch him fall to 101 in the rankings until he dominates to the point that the "i told you so's" come out is now the norm.

rivals is the last place to go for any sort of accurate rankings for the midwest, or ohio.

I love this post 40, you are right there, imho!

Rivals.com NFL Draft - Inside the Numbers: First-round breakdown
I assume everyone has seen this. What's interesting is:
-OSU tied for first w/Miami for most draftees this decade(59). USC-#7(40) Remember all of those #1 and #2 classes; scUM tied for eighth w/38
-OSU tied for second w/FSU for most first rounders this decade(13). USC-tied for fifth w/5 other schools including wisky w/8. tsun nowhere to be found.

USC and scUM will gain in this draft, but next year should be huge for us!

Wow, Miami has nearly twice as many first rounders as the next schools in the list (OSU and FSU).

If you go back and look at the roster of the Miami team that OSU beat to win the national championship, it really is astonishing how talented they were. Literally half of their starters were first round picks. RB, WR, TE, a couple of OL, most of the DL, a couple of LBs, a couple of DBs. It was like an NFL team.

Ohio I meant but true...I think he is a top 20-30 talent at least. His size, strength, and athleticism can't be match by any other DL in the country. There might be others with a possibly higher ceiling but still, Simon is a top 3 DT in the country.
