2009 OL Recruiting
How many OL do we look to be taking from the '09 class after Block O this year? I would imagine around three or four, right?

Well Barton is the only SR and Boone could leave early and we have a lot of seemingly good, walk on OLmen to add depth... I will say 2-3 at the most.

I'd agree with BGriff...Ricky Harris and one other for sure. If you can find a third stud that wants to follow in Block O's footsteps than maybe you take a third. Rest of the class could be LBs.

We could potentially lose 5 OL at the end of 2008-09 season(Boone, Rhering, Mitchum, Person, and Skinner). They're getting a good haul this year that will number around 4-5 only losing one this year(Barton). I think the staff goes after 4 next year with an interior guy like Harris and a true tackle with Hall maybe they go after two more guys with versatility who can play G/T to give some depth.

Newark's Danell Smith and Walsh Jesuit's Pat McShane are two to keep in mind from Ohio. They are probably in the running with Longo for the third best OL in the state after Marcus Hall and Ricky Harris. Moe likely, though, is that any other OL would come from OOS.

I disagree. We need 4 guys this year (even though we are only losing 1) just to get us up to a normal amount of scholarship lineman. We will still have less than most schools in 2008. Then, we will lose 5 guys and just to keep the numbers in the 12-13 range we will have to take 4 or 5.
By my count, in 2009 when these guys would show up we will have only Cordle, Browning, Smith, Blankenship and Block O as true scholarship O linemen. That's 7 guys (8 if we get Jenkins) and I just don't see how you could only take 2.
With as many scholarships as we'll have, we will definitely be in position to take a few. We are going to be loaded with young talent at RB, QB (if we get Pryor) and WR so I don't see any reason to take big numbers there. Big numbers on D, O line and TE with just a few skill position guys.

I could go for another 4 OLmen maybe. You have the 8 you mentioned, plus Kerr is in the same class as Cordle I believe and Andrew Moses has been getting very good reviews as a 3rd string Center at least.
EDIT: Andrew Miller as well could be in for a position change to one of the tackle positions....

According to this (posted by some knucklehead), you want around 18 scholarship OL on roster. We only have 11 OL on scholarship right now. After next year (2008) we lose six OL--either only Barton this year and Boone, Mitchum, Person, Rehring and Skinner next year; or Barton and Boone this year with the other next year. Regardless, we lose six.
I will not be surprised at all if we take five OL this year (hopefully Jenkins, and one other). If we only take five this class (2008), that means we'll have only the current five other OL (Cordle, Smith, Browning, Kerr, and Blankenship) plus the five from the 2008 recruiting class. That's only 10 OL on scholarship after Mitchum, Person, Rehring and Skinner finish their eligibility. I don't see why we shouldn't take at least five OL for 2009, seeing as we'll have 24 ships available after the 2008 season.
