Matt James Rivals Profile Scout Profile   Cincinnati (OH) St. Xavier Height: 6-foot-8 Weight: 280 lbs. Bench: 305 lbs. 40: 5.2 seconds GPA: 3.5 Tennessee, OSU and Penn State have already shown interest. I know there is a lot of information missing, but Matt only began to emerge as a prospect late this summer so there isn't much out there yet, although I'm sure it will become available in the near future. Sophomores very rarely play for X (much less start)-the last time it happened was with Darius Ashley, Fred Craig, and Nick Schneider a couple years ago, and Rob Schoenhoft (as a WR) before them. He's already considered a better prospect than Fred Craig, Darius Ashley, and the rest of his teammates. X is usually known for getting the job done without D1 prospects, and even the best players that do play in college usually go to mid-majors, etc. Matt will be different though, assuming he progresses he will be able to go wherever he wants in a few years. He has great feet and moves very well for a 15 year old, along with the frame to add a lot of muscle, which he will undoubtedly do in X's outstanding weight program. Matt started at right tackle for the USA Today #4 team in the nation (#1 in a couple other polls) in their first game of the season against Winton Woods. X faces #3 DeMatha in the Ohio vs. USA challenge this weekend. I wasn't able to make the game, but I'm told he made great blocks all game and finished off his blocks downfield, all while displaying a swagger and confident demeanor. I'll be at the DeMatha game, so I'll get a firsthand look Sunday. BN $ 6/3 Verbal offers from UC and Tennessee...talks about his contact with OSU and lists interest in Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee and Illinois. I saw James in the title game but didn't know he was only a sophmore! Very, very impressive OL and great size obviously. Reminded me a lot of watching Connor Smith his junior year...great OL on a dominant team that has a great ground attack. Can't wait to see his film and I may review the game on DVR if it hasn't been deleted.

Is his dad a coach somewhere or am I thinking of someone else? Maybe he's the St. X OL Coach?
If he is the OL Coach's son, I believe there was a feature on him a few years back on HBO's Real Sports.

Don't forget about Linslay who won the top lineman award at a camp a couple years ago from Texas...
Also Hodgepodge like Isaiah Byler in state...

I like James a lot. He has all the skills necessary to be a standout left tackle in college. Miller (my prediction for the first OSU commitment for the class of 2010) and Norwell are also up there, but I think James will be the one that will be most college-ready by the time he enrolls.
I do like Isaiah Byler as well, but he will need to watch his weight. Ben Buzzelli from Wadsworth is my sleeper thus far. You've got to love offensive linemen who are also excellent wrestlers and Buzzelli fits the bill. Washington Court House's Skyler Schoffner and Plain City Jonathan Alder's Josh Davis are two others to watch.
