Big OL to visit USC

OL Seantrel Henderson (6-8 325) of St. Paul, MN plans a visit to USC this summer. "I'm going to visit South Carolina, North Carolina, FSU, Florida, Southern Cal, UCLA, and Michigan," said Henderson. He says he has a preexisting relationship with Eric Wolford. "Yeah, I knew him when he was at Illinois," he said. Henderson says he has offers from every SEC, ACC, and Big Ten school as well as Southern Cal and UCLA. Henderson says USC interests him. "Of course, they've got (Steve) Spurrier and their team is getting better every year," said Henderson. He says playing time is important to him, but not the only thing he is considering. "I want to play but if there is a senior in front of me that I have to wait on, that's just the way it is," he said. 'I want to play but I want to feel comfortable at the school too." Henderson says being comfortable with the school, the city, and the coaches are what he is looking for. He does not have any favorites.

The University of Southern California, which plays the Gophers in football in the 2010 and 2011 seasons, has made 6-foot-8, 300-pound Cretin-Derham Hall offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson a major target of its recruiting. Henderson will be a senior this fall.

The Gophers' relentless pursuit of Henderson could be enhanced if new assistant Tim Davis, who oversees the offensive line/running game, enrolls a son at Cretin-Derham Hall in the fall, as expected.

Seantrel Henderson, the mammoth offensive lineman from Cretin-Derham Hall, is the top-ranked high school football recruit in the country. When will he sign, and where will he go? We might not find out until signing day in early February.

The 6-foot-8, 310-pound left guard has made numerous unofficial visits to colleges and plans to take more this summer. After his unofficial visits, he will narrow his list down to about 10 schools. According to Scout.com, Minnesota, Ohio State, Southern California, UCLA, Oklahoma and Florida State will make the cut.

Football coaches and scouts love his quick footwork, knowledge of the game, and run-blocking and pass-protecting skills. "You just don't see guys that agile for that size," Cretin-Derham Hall coach Mike Scanlan said. "This kid is special."

But then there is basketball, Henderson's admitted first love. He has basketball offers from Marquette and St. Louis but knows his future likely rests in football.

"I really don't hear much from him," Scanlan said. "I drove him to practice today, and he didn't say a word. I think he is trying to narrow it down, but he is a kid, and he doesn't like to say no to people."

I understand this is a tOSU board so Michigan should be ripped on all the time, but what in the world are you talking about? The system that an offensive tackle plays in doesn't matter one bit to NFL scouts. Things like size, frame, height, quickness, power, technique, etc. are all much more important.

The #2 pick in the draft last year played in a spread offense. Further, out of the 4 OTs picked in Round 1, 2 of them played in spread offenses. If you're talented, scouts will find you.

Why did all of these guys leave Michigan? Man you are in for a surprise...find out how many qb's were hurt by not taking snaps under center. How many offensive linemen that are left alone (hello Texas Tech) by being pigeon-holed in that offense..Wow.

Do a search of Spread teams and offensive linemen drafted. Take a peek. Look at Hick Rod's draft picks at WVU vrs. the coach before him.

I agree with the sentiment that the spread offense isn't going to prepare offensive lineman for the NFL. However Jason Smith was the 1st lineman off the board, and 2nd pick overall. He played at Baylor and they run the spread. And there was concern that he usually played in a 2 point stance. But it still didn't preclude him from being the 2nd pick overall. And he might be the exception that proves the rule. But his overwhelming physical talent is what he was drafted for. Seems that's the buzz around Seantrel too.
