I expect a few decommits from that list. No info, but when recruiting warms up in the fall the southern kids will start thinking if they really want to play up north.

"understand this is a tOSU board so Michigan should be ripped on all the time, but what in the world are you talking about? The system that an offensive tackle plays in doesn't matter one bit to NFL scouts. Things like size, frame, height, quickness, power, technique, etc. are all much more important.

The #2 pick in the draft last year played in a spread offense. Further, out of the 4 OTs picked in Round 1, 2 of them played in spread offenses. If you're talented, scouts will find you."

You're contradicting yourself it seems. ^
Also bringing up past OL that were drafted from UM should be completely irrelevant.

No contradiction. I'm saying overcoming the negative recruiting will be difficult. Preparing for the NFL won't.

I don't see that as contradicting its more of a supporting argument. He isn't trying to say they were picked high because they played in spread offenses. He is showing that if the tackle has talent worthy of a high pick he will be picked there regardless of system.

Nice! I wish you could have typed my reply for me! Honestly, the only offensive position I think where system REALLY matters is QB. I mean, receivers, you had Crabtree in a 5-wide set and Maclin & Percy in spread offenses. Top tight ends have played in a multitude of offenses and same with running backs.

Players will be drafted on potential regardless of the system. That said, Jason Smith is a better athlete than Jake Long, so he's not a perfect example. An athlete comparable to Jake Long that played in a spread offense probably doesn't go #1 or #2 overall, because he doesn't have the same film protecting a pocket passer.

Not to mention the fact that they have pretty much been wanting timetables and pushing for commits...verbals don't seem to stick well when they are being ushered into it. They have a ton of offers out there and honestly I don't know how they are going to be able to tell all these kids their offers are gone.. Henderson won't have to worry about that of course.

Ok, that's why I asked, I was missreading or getting a lil confused.

I agree that the system has no bearing in draft statuswhen it comes to OT's. And the perfect example like (I think it was you) you said was Baylor's tackle taken in this years draft.

I wouldn't worry about the offers, you tell the less than supers that your full. If you want to drop a kid who has committed to your school and you intially took his commitment, you can stop communicating with him. I don't see a kid on Michigan's commitment list that won't get phone calls and request for visits from smaller DI schools. Schools do that all the time, it's a lot cleaner than pulling a schollie.

Once again Union nails it, I still dont like the fact the staff is doing that to kids.

Uhh, I don't know about that.

Jake Long is a heck of an athlete as evidenced by his amazing NFL combine performance and his appearance in the NFL Pro Bowl in his rookie season. There aren't very many 6'7", 315 pound lineman that have the type of body, arm length, and quickness that he has. Long is every bit of 315, but the way in which he carries his weight he doesn't look a bit over 270, and there are very few LT's in the NFL that have a six pack.

NFL teams not named the Raiders are becoming wary of combine wonders. If you don't produce on the field in a pro system, your draft status is going to be hurt.

Henderson To Make Double Stop in SC

Written by Phil Kornblut

Highly regarded OL Seantrel Henderson (6-8 325) of St. Paul, MN will make a visit to the Palmetto State in July and plans to see USC and Clemson while here. He will see some other schools while on that trip but hasn't decided which ones. He has not visited anywhere yet and said all of his visits will be in July and August.
Henderson said the Gamecocks have made enough of a pitch to him to peak his interest. "I've been looking at their history and I think they have a pretty good program going," Henderson said. "I think that will be a program I want to look at."
Outside of getting the offer from Clemson, Henderson said he's not heard that much from the Tigers.
Henderson said some of his other offers that stand out right now are Ohio State, Southern Cal, Florida, LSU and Oklahoma.
Henderson said among the characteristics he's looking for in a school are, "Just a place I'm comfortable at and people I'm comfortable around." He does not claim any favorites at this point.

I wonder if he put any thought into the "offers that stand out" that he mentioned or just rattled off a few schools. I guess there could be a difference between offers that stand out and a top 5 too. Regardless, I'm a lot more doubtful he ends up at Minnesota now.
