Yes, I am also not worried about Linsley at all....not as certain about Chris Watt though. ND sounds like it's catching Chris' attention. |

I wonder what his connection to Stanford is. Its not everyday that kids from the midwest and the east visit Stanford. Either way, im surprised Stanford made that much of an impression on him.
FWIW, prolly not much at this point, but he's either coming to Illinois today or tomorrow, forgot which.

I won't spend their whole lot of time on this but Stanford is probably the best academic school west of the Mississippi. Ask my nephew and METHUMPS.

The academics at Stanford are better than most of the colleges, including those older ones on the East Coast (Ivy League). The screening process is hellacious, and if you get in, you're pretty much assured to graduate. AND, Standford has won the Director/Sears Cup each and every year it has been in existence. Why, because they offer a great student and very good athlete a chance at a Stanford degree (and maybe entrance to one of their very top rated grad schools also, don't know), and the kids from baseball, synchro swim, women's sports especially, flock there. Their football program is the weakest of all. Sooooo, when a pretty good football player and an excellent student wants to go there, Stanford does give them a look-see. I believe a Watterson kid went there several years ago, and started as DB for three years. Not good enough to play at OSU, but did at Stanford. Didn't make the pros ('and most of us go pro in something other than sports'), so they had a Stanford degree.
As the USC DT sits there droolling down their chin, waiting for the snap, the Stanford OT sits there and thinks, "I'm going to be a doctor, I don't want to get wasted by this animal", and takes a dive. Not so in other sports, but in football, yes. OH well, happy Friday, and

I know we're getting a bit off topic here, but it certainly isn't unprecedented for top Ohio talent to go to Stanford. Aaron Focht, from Germantown Valley View (1996 recruiting class), ended up as a safety at Stanford. Aaron had offers from the best of the Midwest, including Noter Dame and, if memory serves me, even OSU. I remember Aaron speaking when he signed his letter of intent, and he stated that it came down to academics. I don't think he felt it was likely he would play at the next level, so a Stanford degree meant a lot to him, especially having come from a middle class family. Don't know what Linsley's background is, but perhaps he's thinking along the same lines. I hope not!
P.S. I remember Focht's performance as a junior in the state playoffs in 1994 against Cincinnati Wyoming. That year, he outdid a future OSU and NFL corner (then playing not only in the secondary, but also as QB). That young man was named Ahmed Plummer. |
