What is the situation with Freeman and the staff? We all know the pros and cons on Freeman, but regardless, he's an in-state kid that has an offer list that is really impressive, and yet there has been next to nothing said about Buckeye interest. Is the lack of interest more to do with the fact that we're looking for a guard as opposed to a tackle, that he's such a wild card, that he's a Trotwood Madison kid (still don't totally understand the rumors of negative implications here), or something else?

There is only one measuring stick for recruiting classes at The Ohio State University:
National Championship
4 First round draft picks
8 All-Americans
Lombardi & Outland winner
National Defensive MVP

The staff decided long ago that Freeman was not in their plans...much like Zebrie Sanders.

We're always looking for tackles ... just like every team in college football.

You don't need to understand it, just believe it. Trotwood Madison is the Anti-Glenville.

There is always room for improvement.
(To be fair two of the players from that class finished in the top 10 of the Heisman vote twice. )

If the staff offers a kid, it means they want him. Obviously, if the quota at that position is filled up, the kid-Vlad Emilien for example-will be politely told the ship has sailed. However, that does not seem to be the case for Martinez-he was offered after/at the same time as Longo, so the coaches are still fishing. I think the staff figures it can get an elite national OL like Watt or Martinez, they will take him, otherwise they will be happy w/ Hall (hopefully) and the other OL and use the schollie somewhere else.
If you want to talk "pecking order" look at WHEN the coaches offer the schollie-that gives you an indication of the staff's pecking order. That is why the staff flooded the field w/ DB offers-they wanted to be through w/ recruitment for the most part. Besides, DB's and WR's are more high strung and difficult to recruit-OL are more placid to deal with!
