That DB class would be out of this world.
I really really want Turner at Free Safety and Mason at Strong Safety. Is it inappropriate to ask what the hold up on Mason would be? From all I've seen he's a good kid and student. Hopefully he isn't hellbent on being a RB. Anyways, I really think we need to get some safeties next year. At least two, with maybe a Moeller-esque hybrid should one present itself. |

Regardless, I definitely think we need two strong safety type players in this class(though I know we don't specifically recruit positions).
Seems like last year we got two great athletes at safety in Domicone and Johnson. However, both strike me as likely to end up at free safety, though Domicone looks like he could be a strong safety if he grows into it. I've heard Turner is good enough to play cornerback too. Is this true? Potential heir apparent to Jenkins(cornerback in a safety's body)? |

I really think we are trying to get to where all of our Dbs can cover and tackle...It allows for versatility...
With that said I think that Banks, Mason, Turner is a great start in terms of guys that we will take a long look at for the safety position...Also guys like Barnett, Givens, or maybe Allen could fit in there as well too, depending on how they play when they get here... There are some that can only play S, but most of our CBs that we have been recruiting could also play safety much like we saw with Kurt Coleman, and could see with Howard... |

He played corner as a junior.

Hollywood, weather, media, glamour, girls, surf, hype and a maybe a little tradition, I don't know. All I know is I have to live here and listen to this crap all year long. Oh, how I long for the good ol' days; like around Y2K when USC couldn't recruit or beat hardly anybody! Go back to the pros, petey! |

I am may be in minority but I don't see Mason getting an offer...I will be the first to admit if I am wrong about that but I am just going by the few things I have heard about the situation...

I think he may have reached his ceiling...that or he needs to lose about 10-15 pounds. He was a really good ball player sophmore year but he seemed to have gained too much weight in his junior film. I think if he gets an offer, it won't be until later on.

we need a playmaking TE in this class. Are there any in-state kids that are deserving of an offer. Nicol leaves after next season and ballard is a great blocker and has good hands but he can't really stretch the field. We havnt really had a playmaking TE under the tressel era. Unless you count Marcel Frost but he's at jackson state now. What about the kid at cincinnati winton woods i forgot his name any interest there? Any thoughts i think this is a huge need in this class.

Talbert is the kid from Winton Woods.. he'd fit in with what we do at the TE position.. from what ive seen and heard he takes his blocking seriously, goes hard in the blocking game, he's got good hands in the receiving game..
He's not gonna be that pash catching, Kellen Winslow type, we've all been craving, but Talbert would fit right in with what we look for at the TE position.. That being said, i think we should look out of state |

I agree that we probably need a pair of TE's, but as of right now we need some canidates, and the list is small, but i am sure the staff is out scouting for some... Since the thread was bumped I figured it was just time for a little update... QB - Not sure - Staff still hasn't shown their hand and i don't think they will until something happens with Pryor. RB - Not sure - Staff really hasn't shown their hand here either, no offers out to backs besides Brown and most would think he is a long shot. RB - Bud Golden - I think they will eventually offer FB - Adam Homan WR - Perez Ashford/Pat White/Not sure - Once again staff hasn't shown their hand here other than Marlon Brown with an offer...Think they might look OOS unless one of the two guys above show that they need offers...And that could very well happen... WR - Chris Fields TE - Not sure - No offers yet, and really not a lot of candidates as I mentioned above... OL - Jack Mewhort OL - Chris Watt OL - Marcus Hall DE - Melvin Fellows DE - Tank Carradine - Think it is a just a matter of time before we offer, too good to pass up... DE/LB - Jonathon Newsome DT - John Simon DT - Cory Adams LB - Storm Klein LB - Jordan Whiting LB - Too many to choose from right now CB - CJ Barnett CB/S - EJ Banks S - JT Turner S - Jamie Wood DB - Derell Mason/Darell Givens/Dale Peterman/DJ Hunter - Will we take an extra DB...Lots of guys out there with talent...I now think Givens ends up at Miami with his recent offer from there...Watch out for DJ Hunter, he is the next one in Ohio to blow up...This recruiting season is moving at a very high rate of speed...We have 7 commits already...This time last year we had 0. The staff has really shown their hand early in terms of the guys they like in Ohio and at this point and maybe it is the optimist in me, but I don't see them missing on any guy in state that they offer...Lots of kids still popping up as well...Will be interesting to see where we go with QB recruiting as well...Probably need another update after the weekend because there is another big junior day and probably some more offers, and maybe a commit...The way this season is going we are going about a commit every week... ![]() |

Here's my EARLY EARLY EARLY dream class (while still trying to be somewhat realistic):
QB - Morgan Newton (although I am intrigued by Willoughby's Pat Nicely) RB - would like to see a combination of a speed back (a Jordan Hall or Fitzgerald Toussaint) and a power back (a Carlos Hyde or Larry Caper) FB - Adam Homan WR - Perez Ashford (would gladly take Marlon Brown, Dion Sims or Kraig Appleton but I think those are all longshots) WR - Chris Fields TE - agree it's too early to tell...but look out for Brian Wozniak out of Loveland...I also like Ed Hazelett out of Warren Central OL - Marcus Hall OL - Jack Mewhort OL - Chris Watt DE - Melvin Fellows DE - Cornelius Carradine DE/LB - Jonathan Newsome DT - John Simon DT - Corey Adams LB - Storm Klein LB - Jordan Whiting LB - Dorian Bell (if that doesn't work out I would have no problem adding a kid like Chris Snook) CB - CJ Barnett CB - EJ Banks S - Justin Turner S - Denicos Allen ATH - Jamie Wood ATH - Craig Crawford I realize how many kids I am leaving off this list...Fritz Rock, Bryce Brown, Petey Smith, Darrell Givens, Darrell Mason, Patrick White, Chris Freeman, Corey Linsley, Michael Edwards, Will Studlien, Ricky Harris, Nate Klatt, Dale Peterman, Pat Muldoon, Mike Marrow, Dan Fox, DJ Hunter, Devontae Payne, Bud Golden, Justin Kollie, Jeff Walker, Kyle Koehne, Adam Bellamy, Nate Cadogan, Trae Tiller, Tyler Scott, Julius Ferrell, Willie Ferrell, etc. And of course there are probably a handful of recruits that will end up in the '09 class that we haven't even heard of yet... |

With the list of guys you left off you can see why a guy like Zook is all over Ohio this year...The thing that surprises me is no other coaches are doing it as well... |

Here's my dream team of 09
QB-1-2 I like morgan Newton and Devontae Payne. Newton is more of the duel-treat and payne has great size and is more of a pocket passer. I think he could play DE. Just my thought but i like there contrasting styles. Rb-2-3 I like Fitzgerald Toussiant and Bud golden. Unlike most people i don't think we need to go out of state i actually prefer the in-state kids. Darrel Mason is also a possibility although will most likely grow into a safety or maybe even a OLB. Bryce brown and larry caper are also possibilities however im not crossing my fingers in hope of landing those two. FB-0-1 Nobody wants to play FB anymore and most teams don't use it anymore. We however use it more than most teams. I think adam homan has the best chance at seeing action here. But i see him as a LB or even DE. Zach Boren is also another possibility doubt we offer him though. Honestly i doubt we take any, if we do he's going to be a converted LB. WR-2- Not a huge need in this class. Love Fields who is already committed. I also like Jamie wood at WR even though he was offered as a safety i just love his video. And another one just to throw out there as a wild card is Jeff Duckworth out of Cincinnati Princeton. Doubt he gets an offer but he a heck of a player who puts up good numbers. |
