Wow, just wow. First of all, Lane, Jenkins, O'Neal, and Patterson are seniors, so they're already counted as gone. Clifford has already been mentioned as possibly/likely gone via tranfer. Of the remaining five (Amos, Russell, Coleman, Washington, and Chekwa) you really think all five will declare early? By default, one of the corners won't even be a starter. The only ones I consider semi-serious candidates to leave early are Russell and Washington. And we have nine other DBs in the sophomore/freshman/recruit classes (not counting Chekwa and Clifford). No way in hell do Amos, Russell, Coleman, Washington, and Chekwa all declare.

With Robo being back and the #1 WR, I seriously doubt either Hartline or Small wil have the kind of year to put them in the first day, let alone the first round. And don't be shocked if Beanie comes back to challance Archie's all-time OSU record.

With 8 months remaining. That's a pretty crucial distinction.

They also are hitting at a higher rate than I can ever recall with offers resulting in verbals or leading. A lot less second tier offers needed this year.

Five? Probably not. Four? Quite feasible.

With his talent, Chekwa could play his way into declaring after his 4th season (RS Jr) in 2009... departing with Russell, Coleman & Washington (barring an injury/medRS for those three). Amos would be the only one I'd count on returning... barring transfer, and assuming his medical RS is all set.

We're at 17 commits right now. By the end of this week, it's entirely possible they could add 6 more (Hyde, Carter, Watt, Brown, Green, McDougald), bringing the total to 23. Newsome and Hyde are as good as in, so thats a full 25 right there. Berry and Emelien will probably commit when they come up to C-Bus with their families.

27-28 will be the number, IMO.

Robo and Hartline put up bigger numbers than Ginn and Gonzo did and that was with a "new offense." I don't think it is out of the question for both to get drafted first day.

I would be VERY surprised to see Beanie back. This isn't like Malcolm, or even JL, coming back. The wear and tear on a RB, not to mention a brusier like Beanie, puts him in a much different catergory IMO.

Without having to get into specifics. We have 22 now. I do not see how anyone can say it is unrealistic to think we could lose 4-5 to grades/discipline/NFL/transfer.

Last year we lost Garnier, Williams, Dublin, Ginn, Gonzalez, and Pittman. There might be more but that is off the top of my head and that is SIX.

27 is the number I keep hearing in numerous circles. Not quite SEC like, but high for tOSU. Haven't seen numbers like that since the Woody days. Those of us old enough to remember, we could hand out schollies like free water back then. Course that was before the 85 rule!!

Brutus did say after the next TWO seasons, not after this coming season. There's no way all of those guys are gone after this season, barring each one of those guys having award-winning seasons and we win the national championship. We do have 9 guys graduating in the next 2 seasons though.

Chekwa is a 3rd year Soph this year, so he COULD leave after this year (like Santonio Holmes pondered but returned for his "money year"). If he leaves after this year or after next year (when he's a 4th year Junior), that would be 10 guys. IF Clifford transfers, that would be 11. But for sure, we're losing 9 DBs to graduation in the next 2 seasons and whoever leaves early to the NFL, to transfer, or goes on medical hardship would add to that total.

I believe Amos is thought to have another year upcoming via medical redshirt... but those usually do not become official until after their 4th year.

I don't like to get into these debates but I gotta back my man Mili here. There's a name for the method that you use in accounting, double declining balance method. You depreciate certain fixed assets at roughly twice the rate than linear methods. But there's a draw back, after you had depreciated the entire amount prior to the service life of the equipment, you have to stop depreciating.

What does that mean here? It means that if you try to compensate for everyone that's leaving in the next two years in one year, then in a couple of years you are not going to have any scholarships to give. That's not how recruiting is done. You have to spread it out and the target normally is to compensate for the class that is leaving.

JT sees massive turnover upcoming at DB, has Wood, Barnett, Clarke in the bag, likely Emilien and 1+ of Brown/McDougald/etc also... he's going to turn away a stud like McGee in February, in order to spread out the classes?

OSU brought in a busload of DBs in 06, which now looks quite smart given the lack of local, OSU caliber DBs in
07. That was not a coincidence.

(Potentially) Beanie, Wilson, Clifford + one more = 26 spots

Given the remarkable depth across the board, and law of averages with attrition, it seems pretty safe to assume one more spot opens up via transfer, attrition (grades/etc), or otherwise.

Washington could be another potential departee. He can play himself into the first day. Will he wish to go out with many of the other 05 prospects? Will he not want to risk his stock by coming back for a rebuilding year? Or simply have met his goals at this level if OSU hoists the crystal?

I think 25 is a safe estimate, with potential to go higher as things become clearer about attrition, early departures and the like.

I agree with those who see this class being around 26 or so. I expect a couple early departures for the draft, and people seem to forget that every year guys realize they're buried on the depth chart and will probably never see the field aside from mop-up duty, and so they look into transfers, not because they haven't been happy at OSU, but because they want to play football. Likely the staff has already had some internal conversations with kids in such a position, and have a feel for what the turnover will be. I understand there are currently only 22 scholarships available, but the one thing I haven't heard from those that doubt a class of over 25 is an explanation for the pattern of offers going out. It just doesn't make any sense if we weren't going to take 25-27. You don't send out offers just to send out offers, especially when many receiving them and already holding them are openly interested in OSU.
