I bolded the 4th olineman that you indicate are going to be added to the class, and wonder if this might be an area where the staff would cut back. Remembering last year's class with Jenkins, and other years when the numbers got crunched OL was the position that got "downsized". If Watt does not verbal, is there any chance Bollman would be willing to "reconsider" his need in "09, and make another spot for a skill position, Banks, Vlad, McGee, or even Sims or Ezell? |

All the guys...Longo, Prior, Klatt, Spiker have been told to wait a week to 10 days to hear what the staff plans on doing... THey are probably wanting to get a feeling from Watt who was here on Sunday... Don't be surprised to hear something sooner than 7 days tho...If any of the guys get an offer, they are added to the list and Watt is moved off IMO... Most at this point would tell you that Longo is leading the race in terms of the 4 listed above...Seems to be a guy that can play guard or tackle...prior could as well... |

I was just thinking and the '08 and '09 classes are going to go well with each other. As far as rankings go, we got a good number of "elite" 5 star prospects in '08 (Pryor, Adams, Brewster, Posey, and Sabino) but total numbers were down. This year we have a ton of really good 4 star top 100 or 250 guys to add depth. I think these two classes are going to be ridiculously good:
QB: Terrelle Pryor RB: Carlos Hyde, Jamaal Berry? APB/Slot WR: Lamar Thomas, Jordan Hall FB: Jermil Martin, Adam Homan, Zach Boren WR: DeVier Posey, Jake Stoneburner, Chris Fields, James Jackson, Duron Carter (Justin Green, Lamar Thomas, Jordan Hall possibly mixing in) TE: Nic DeLillo, Reid Fragel OT: Mike Adams, J.B. Shugarts, Marcus Hall?, Sam Longo? OG: Mike Brewster, Justin Boren, Corey Linsley, Chris Watt? C: Jack Mewhort DE: Keith Wells, Nathan Williams, Melvin Fellows, Jonathan Newsome, Muldoon/Adams/Ezell? DT: Garret Goebel, Willie Mobley, Shaq Rowell, John Simon, Adam Bellamy OLB: Andrew Sweat, Dorian Bell, Jordan Whiting (maybe Klein) MLB: Etienne Sabino, Storm Klein S: Ohrian Johnson, Zach Domicone, Jamie Wood, Brad McDougald, Vlad Emiien? CB: Travis Howard, CJ Barnett, Justin Green, Corey Brown, Dominique Clarke, Brandon McGee? K/P: Ben Buchanon - I am absolutely stoked when stacking these two classes up. Terelle Pryor is a major threat at all times, but adding all the weapons and protection around him, this offense could be unstoppable. Then the defense is stacked with studs and we are VERY deep on the defensive side of the ball. The only real positions that I would like to see another stud at is TE and RB. We are likely landing Berry, so that will be huge. However, I am really hoping we get Hageman...he is what the doctor ordered at TE. I am extremely high on Hageman and he is a real field stretcher. I truly believe some championships are going to come from these two classes. Last edited by RB07OSU; 06-25-2008 at 04:05 PM. |

Looking at that list is certainly impressive. By the way, did I miss some news? Shouldn't those two be reversed? Last I heard Brewster was center all the way and Mewhort was OG, maybe even OT.

Just a guess...I think Brewster could play either and likely will play some guard. Brewster has a nasty pull block and I would like to see him at guard personally. Centers occasionally pull but in any event, just a guess.

Good catch...our interior OL will be sick. So will the rest of it but I forgot about Boren.

Great list. You forgot Justin Boren. He's going to be a huge piece of the puzzle. Here's how I see next year's 2 deep:
1st Team Offense: QB: Pryor (Tressel will be a great mentor for this kid. If he chooses to learn). TB: Herron (Herron is more consistent at picking up positive yardage on the ground than Saine. The Spring Game set him up to be the 2nd back IMO). FB: Martin (if not, one of the walk-ons) TE: Ballard (3rd Tackle but can make catches) WR: Hartline (Big possession-type guy who can occassionally surprise people with his speed. He'll be a much needed leader on the offense) WR: Washington (It's a tough call between him and Posey. I'm calling Washington because he has more reps and experience) LT: Adams (Hopefully he'll get some pt this season) LG: J. Boren (He'll be solid here) C: Cordle (Valuable player who will be a 3rd year starter making the calls) RG: Smith (He'll be solid here) RT: Browning (Might be a Sims type that is better suited to play inside) 2nd Team Offense: QB: Bauserman (Throws a good deep-ball and will get a ton of reps as the team only has 2 QBs going into next season). TB: Saine/Hyde/Berry/J. Hall (Saine has to show that he has RB instincts. If not the young puppies will soon pass him) FB: Z. Boren (His brother probably make the offer a little easier but he's a good fit at this position) TE: DiLillo WR: Posey (Has potential to come on towards the end of the season) WR: Stoneburner (Just a matter of time here) LT: Miller LG: Blankenship C: Brewster RG: Browning RT: Shugarts Honorable mentions: Thomas, Sanzenbacher and Small add great depth at WR. 1st Team Defense: DE: Heyward (Who would trade him for Barksdale now?) DT: Denlinger (3rd year starter) DT: Larimore DE: Gibson (Bulk up a little more?) LB: Homan (Time for a healthy Homan) LB: Sabino (going to be an AA here) LB: Hines (Closes the sidelines fast) S: Russell S: Coleman CB: Chekwa (Time to take the next step this season) CB: Amos (A great SR year would get him drafted) (NB): Moeller (To much speed and hitting ability to leave off the field) 2nd Team Defense: DE: Thomas DT: Worthington (Has a little trouble bulking up) DT: Goebel DE: Williams (Going to be a beast off the edge) LB: Sweat (budding star here) LB: Spitler LB: Rolle S: Oliver S: Gant CB: Scott CB: Howard Note: It's time for guys in the secondary who have been buried in the depth chart to step up or else they will be quickly overtaken by the monster class coming in. LB recruiting has been spectacular. The DT has replenished. Williams is going to be a heck of a player here. The main concern is at safety, should Coleman and/or Russell leaves. |

Boren may be a new addition, but from a class perspective I would argue he is part of '07. When he is eligible again he will be a RS Junior - same as Evan Blankenship.
Oops - make that part of the '06 class. Blankenship will be a RS Soph in '09. Great chart nonetheless. |

We have 23 commits with 2 OL (Linsley and Mewhort). Hall would be the third OL (if he does play OL instead of DL), and the 24th commit. Many are counting Berry and Emilien as all but in, so if they indeed are, that's 26 commits. Taking a fourth OL would give us 27 commits. This means we'd need 25 slots for the 2009 class (currently 23), and two commits to enroll early to be counted against the 2008 class. If Clifford transfers as expected that gives us 24 slots, and it's all but a lock one of the juniors will bail for the NFL, so we should have 25 available. Still, we need two to enroll early (Barnett looks like one) to enable us to sign 27 players while keeping the 2009 count at 25.
