It's a two WR offense in his breakdown... vs a 3 wr set that Dane played in. And he'll have a lot more competition to see meaningful reps than he did last year. Posey & Stoney will bring it, as will a maturing Washington.

I have a question only because i haven't seen anyone else talk about it , but we only took 20 commits last year so wouldn't that give us 5 more we can use this year or at least a couple . Like i said this has been bothering me for awhile now and have been meaning to ask .

That is part of the issue - and it brings up an interesting point.

The two limits are 85 on schollie at any one time and 25 admitted during any academic year (beginning with fall quarter). So yes, the 20 from last year is relevant because if kids enroll early they need to fit in that previous class.

But let's say we sign 28 this year and three enroll early. By bringing in 25 in the '09 class any kids from 2010 who want to enroll early and get a jump would be out of luck - they would put us over the 25 limit for the '09 academic year.

So, if we do go to 28 hopefully 5 (and it can't be more than since the '08 number is 20) would choose early enrollment. Even then we could only have two early enrollees in '10.

Conceivably this could cost us a recruit if early enrollment were an important issue to them - and more and more kids are choosing that route.

Oops - the number isn't 20 from last year because we had early enrollees there as well. Those kids counted against '07. I think last year's number is now 16. Hopefully a bunch of '09 kids will choose to come in early.

I could be wrong but just because a player enrolls early doesnt necessarily mean he has to count against the previous class. I am pretty sure that there is an option to count them towards the current class? So even if there were a few early enrollees in 2010, that doesnt necessarily mean that they would have to count towards the '09 class. Am I wrong?

I am not the NCAA, but they use the term "initial counter". An initial counter is a scholarship athlete who enrolls full time during an academic year. That academic year starts with the fall term. You can only have 25 initial counters during an academic year. If you enroll in the spring of 2008 that is part of the 2007 academic year. So no, I would argue it is not an option. I

What about summer? Almost any kid could enroll in summer session, couldn't he?

It sounds like we could (I use 'could' as in: we are capable of having, not in a sense relating to likelihood thereof) have as many as 9 early enrollees this year. If we wind up taking 28 kids this year, that would give us the option of taking 6 early enrollees next year, correct?

I don't see us taking more than 27.. But 28 would not be out of the realm of possibility I guess. I am like Mili here though. I don't want to be doing things that would pull too many schollies from next year. There is some great talent coming out in 2010 as well.

Totally agree. Hall, Berry, and then Adams or... and Watt or...is plenty, imho. I will be living on very limited breath until Hall and Berry are done.
