Terrific trio tops 2009 recruiting class

Now that all of the WPIAL football stars from the Class of 2008 have signed national letters of intent -- with the exception of the nation's No. 1 prospect -- the junior class can finally escape its long shadow. While Jeannette quarterback Terrelle Pryor headed a banner year in Western Pennsylvania recruiting, the next crop offers only a handful of elite major-college prospects.
"Compared to last year, it's going to be off," Metro Index scouting director Joe Butler said. "You're not going to have the number of national recruits, but more Mid-American Conference-type recruits, which is still really good football. Last year, we had an unbelievable number of high-end talents. There's not as much high-end talent, but there are a couple kids that are exceptional."
