Nice get...I really like Reid's frame. With a frame like that, you have all kinds of possibilities. He can put on minimum weight and stay at TE as more of a pass catcher, put on more weight and be a big blocking TE (ala The Game with Tyree), or become an athletic tackle. I think it's too early to call on Fragel...he could go either way imo but if I had to guess, he stays at TE. He has similar measurables to Miller (our currently converted tackle) but has a different frame and ability. Ideally, I would like to see us land Hageman as our pass catching threat and see Fragel as a predominant blocker. Good blocking TE's are worth their weight in gold sometimes (see Jake Ballard, though he is a freak and has amazing athleticism). Anyways, I'm excited to have our first TE in.

Just as a blocker at TE this guy is going to be worth his weight in gold. If he can also catch the ball, that's just an added plus and another option for TP. Wow, could you imagine how hard it would be to cover Ballard 6'6", Stoney 6'5" and Reid 6'8" in the red zone? Talk about a size mismatch. What safety or CB is going to out jump or out muscle these three guys? A little play action freezes the LB's, both Ballard and Fragel release off the line, Stoney runs a little corner route.....
Me likey....

PREPS: South tight end picks Ohio State
The allure of winning and remaining a tight end were too much for Reid Fragel to pass on, so the Grosse Pointe South junior committed to Ohio State on Tuesday night.
Fragel is the second state prospect to commit to the Buckeyes. Two weeks ago, wide receiver James Jackson of Grand Ledge said he will sign with Ohio State.
Fragel was recruited by a host of colleges, but eventually chose Ohio State over Michigan State.
"The first time I set foot on the campus, I fell in love with the place," he said Wednesday. "Ever since then, I've been narrowing things down. I went to visit Michigan State (Tuesday) and it just kind of confirmed everything that I made the right decision. After the visit I committed."
Fragel is 6-feet-8, 258 pounds, and has 4.8 speed in the 40. He is the state's top tight end prospect, and his desire to be a tight end in college was a deciding factor in his school decision.
"Everybody kind of talks about the whole tackle thing," he said. "They see my height and the potential to put on a lot more weight and they automatically think tackle. But with Ohio State it was different. They recruited me strictly as a tight end, and I committed as a tight end. As long as I maintain my speed and ability to run some routes and stay agile, I'll be at tight end."
Ohio State has played in the last two BCS national championship games, and that made an impression on Fragel.
"The ability they have to win was important," he said. "I just like to be around guys who like to win, too. It's going to be nice to be on a team with a bunch of guys on the same page as me who are as committed to winning as I am."

Reid is gonna have to do some work to become a good tackle but I think he can. Too bad he didn't want to hear that yet. BTW, Dion Sims is being VERY quiet and I would expect him to go the basketball route before football. Good pickup, but again, I wouldn't excpect him to be a TE for you guys.

Seems to be this year's "Tressel type" recruit much like Malcom Jenkins, AJ Hawk, and James Laurinaitis, among others. Reid is the # 23 ranked TE per Scout, only 3 stars, and no offer from the high and mighty Meechigan. This young man may have a future.
