So, realistically, at what age do kids start showing up on the radar at schools like tOSU? It seems like the recruiting process is beginning to resemble what we see in Basketball? but out of curiosity, when do they start to look at kids.

If it seems like I am asking for a reason, I am? and it?s going to sound absolutely ridiculous that I mention it. But I?m aware of a young man (very young) who is huge for his age and has been playing organized football with kids that are 4-5 years older than he is for a couple of years now. He really is too big and strong to be on the field with kids his own age. And even when he?s on the field with kids who are 4-5 years older than he is, he takes them to task. If his parents are any indication of what his frame is going to look like when he?s ready to matriculate a couple of levels from now, he?s going to make one HECK of a lineman for someone.

Being in the Chicagoland area, I?d hate to see the Zooker get his hands on him without at least asking.

Yeah, I know? it?s a stooooooopid question if I was asking purely based on this particular kid. But it was this kid who made me think about when the staff starts seriously paying attention to ?you should see this kid? kind of talk.

Kids can start showing up on the radar as early as their freshman year in high school (although rare). Many top-notch kids start getting real attention during or after their sophomore year. I think there are about 20 threads here already on kids in the 2010 recruiting class (kids currently finishing up their sophomore year and heading into their junior year football season). Even if this kid you're talking about is only in 7th or 8th grade, there's nothing wrong in bringing him up for discussion. We even have a thread on a 2011 kid (of course, he's also a BP member).

I agree, unless you are an unbelieveable talent, you start making your name at combines before and after your junior year or during that junior season. But these days, combines are the way for players to get noticed. So much is put into assigning numbers on a kid's strength and speed, that those numbers are what get your film looked at most of the time.

Nick Goings was getting Ohio State interest before 9th grade. We had 3 freshman that were in varsity camp before even starting a day in high school.... the other two Roland Steele (Ohio State) and Jamal Bailey (Toledo)
