Locker will be one of the first 3 QB's taken off the board, and a lot of people have him going as the 1st. Huge difference between the college and pro game in terms of QB play. I think Locker will fare quite well in the league personally. He hasn't had any talent around him at UW since he's been there keep in mind. Dudes a gamer too.
Locker is #78 in pass efficiency with a 122.82 rating, has a 14/8 TD/INT ratio, and a completion percentage of 56.4%. Freeman was #34 in pass efficiency (136.49), had a much better TD/INT ratio (20/8), and a higher completion percentage (58.64). And just because one team took a gamble on an "athletic" QB last draft doesn't mean another will do the same this draft. Freeman is also 6'6", 248 while Locker is 6'3", 226...in other words, Freeman is three inches taller and 22 pounds bigger than Locker. You can't equate the two. No way is Locker the first QB taken...not happening. Not even first round...name the vCash bet.

If Locker comes out, he's a 1st rounder. Absolutely no question about it. I'd put real cash on it.

I'm not comparing him to Freeman as a prospect, but the NFL couldn't care less about college statistics. What they DO care about is raw ability, which Locker has in abundance. Tim Tebow and Sam Bradford have Heisman trophy's, and Colt McCoy was also a much better college player....but Locker will be drafted ahead of at least two of them. Bradford could be picked before Locker, but I don't see him being an elite pro.

If Locker comes out, I wouldn't be surprised for him to blow up in workouts and then go in round one. I'll be even less surprised when he flops.

Yeah, and Pryor had an efficiency rating of 145.62 on 60.2% completion with a 12/4 TD/INT ratio. Was he that good of a QB last year? Stats can be misleading, especially in the college game. Pryor has 4-5star recruits around him. Freeman had less talent, but still some. Locker had absolutely no talent around him coupled with playing an absolutely brutal schedule.

I'm not saying he's a great college QB. But he has all the measurables NFL teams are looking for in a QB and I think based on his potential he'll go 1st round and be one of the top 3 QB's taken, and probably the 2nd behind Bradford, with a chance at being the 1st. Hell, Flacco was playing QB at Delaware and look where/how he ended up.

Agreed Magua. Look at a guy like Matt Ryan. His stats aren't exactly first round worthy but he had everything the NFL is looking for in pro QB with talent put around him.

Shaw Thread went where?

Where did the Josh Shaw thread go???? Announcing Tuesday!

new update from ESPN
ESPNU 150 CB Joshua Shaw discusses upcoming announcement

Under Armour All-American Joshua Shaw (Palmdale, Calif.), who will choose between USC, Ohio State, Florida and LSU on Tuesday, spoke with ESPN affiliate Web site EyeOnTheTigers.com about the impending decision.

"I'm still not 100-percent sure. But, I'm ready to get this process over with. I have a good idea, I have a school in mind, there is a certain school that is in front. I'm putting this in God's hands. He'll make sure that whoever I pick is the right place for me."

He continued, "This hasn't wore down the family. We knew I was going to graduate in December, and with the playoffs coming up I just think getting this out of the way and concentrating on the team is the right thing to do."

"Really, I think it's a situation where I will fit in and get playing time. They are all great schools that all win championships." Shaw concluded. "Traveling to games is something my family is comfortable with. We just want to find the right fit."

Barring a last second change of heart, which would just have him wind up at USC. Still, it's 90/10 in UF's favor.

Prospects could add surge to 2010 class
Thursday, December 3, 2009
By Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

If major-college football recruiting is analogous to big-game fishing, then consider Ohio State to have several blue-chip prospects still beeping on the sonar as the season shifts into deep national waters.

For example, there is LaMarcus Joyner of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., whom Rivals.com considers to be the No.1 cornerback prospect in the nation. "Yeah, Ohio State is in it strong. They are in my top three," Joyner said.

And there are linebacker Jordan Hicks of West Chester, Ohio (Lakota West), considered the No.2 overall prospect in the nation by ESPNU; offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson of St. Paul, Minn., Rivals.com's No.1 overall prosect; and Sharrif Floyd of Philadelphia, the No.1 defensive tackle prospect nationally according to Rivals.com.

The Buckeyes are in contention to land all of them, plus several more, including offensive lineman Matt James of Cincinnati (St. Xavier); defensive back Christian Bryant and athlete Latwan Anderson of Cleveland (Glenville); and defensive tackle Johnathon Hankins of Detroit.

"It's a list of eight big-time guys that the Buckeyes have legitimate shots at," said veteran recruiting analyst Bill Kurelic of Bucknuts.com and ESPNU. "If they could go even 50 percent on that list, that would be a big-time finish for their 2010 recruiting class."

The Buckeyes have been stuck at 13 commitments for a while in a class that could number 18 to 20 on signing day, depending on a couple of factors. One is whether junior defensive linemen Cameron Heyward and Thaddeus Gibson opt to leave for the NFL. Another is whether one or more players elect to transfer.

Plus, Ohio State still intends to make running back Carlos Hyde a member of the 2010 class. The power back from Naples, Fla., signed with the Buckeyes in February, but he had to get some academic issues in order and spent the fall at Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia.

"If they could somehow get five or six of those other guys, they would be too good to turn down," Kurelic said. "And really, it could be a class that just on talent alone would be as good as any class Jim Tressel has signed at Ohio State."

Florida, SEC get richer
By Second Season on December 20, 2009 1:05 PM

...
Why is the SEC so dominating? Because they have the best recruiters. It's as simple as that. Sure, there is a lot of talent in the South and, because of lower academic standards, they are able to sign more players than other conferences. They sign players that other schools can't. And they send them to prep schools, like a farm system.

Penn State is the only Big 10 school in the mix. Ohio State and Michigan, which have been perennial top 10 schools in the past, are in the top 15 this year. Ohio State figures to come on strong before the February signing date but the rest of the Big 10 is struggling.

In response to late interest in Plan B prospects

Is this year another case of where offering a select few and missing out on a lot of the top targets is going to back fire on the staff. It seems like it's happened quite a bit the last few years and we end up settling for a few plan B guys to fill the class. Some have produced very well since being @ OSU but I think @ a place like OSU, you continue to go after the top talent around the country.

I don't question Tressel's recruiting much, but why not give out a few more schollies earlier in the process to the top talent around the country and if the class starts filling too quickly, back off on a few. I know the staff prefers to go after a small number so they can use that as a recruiting tool, telling kids they are only recruiting 2 guys @ their position for example.

They also only invite a small number of official visits per year relative to some of the other schools across the country. Why not open the doors to more top-ranked recruits and show what OSU has to offer? Better than trying to get in on guys late and scrambling to fill positions of need w/ lesser talent. Seems to work for other coaches that hand out scholarships like water, jmo.

A few Big Ten recruiting nuggets to pass along, beginning with the latest top 20 team rankings from ESPN's Scouts Inc., which actually came out Dec. 10 (sorry for the delay in posting these). Penn State comes in at No. 5 nationally, while Ohio State ranks at No. 12 and Michigan at No. 20.
