Ohio State's Recruiting of Ohio QB's

Montana, Gardner, Bolden, Coyter?? I'm sure they are all great QB'S but how about some Ohio QB'S, Watkins, Roback, Macon, Faine, etc....
OSU has missed some real high quality Ohio QB's over the years and seem somewhat reluctant to pull trigger on Ohio QB'S!
Ohio produces some pretty good players.

Yes, but they rarely produce quality QBs. Mike Hartline & Clay Belton are headliners for their recruiting years. Nice prospects, but not OSU caliber guys.

Rothlisberger wasn't even a starter until his senior year thanks to coach playing his son beforehand.

How many Ohio QBs this year have offers from FSU, LSU, etc.? Ohio doesn't have any Nick Montana's this year.

I'm sure the staff is aware of the options within the state.

I guess we should've offered an Ohio guy instead of Pryor..

McMullen, Zwick, Schoenhoft, Boeckman and a fella named Smith.

The home state has been pretty well represented.

"Well represented"? McMullen did jack squat. Zwick didn't do much better. Schoenhoft barely ever saw the field and transferred to a I-AA school where he has been mediocre so far. Boeckman got benched by a true frosh who had three career games (although a lot of Boeckman's downside where caused by a very inconsistent OL). Smith was the only one who was highly successful.

You forgot McFadden, who ended up transferring to Akron to play basketball.

Nelson, Davis, Opelt, Stanzi, Jones, Smith, Belton, Anderson, Stoudt, Dysert, Miller, Kelce, Britt (not including 09). Davis is the lone exception to the rule, and everyone missed that one.

I believe he played his first game at quarterback 5 months before signing day. I've also heard that he was treated like small potatoes during his OSU visit (Cooper).

I think the rumor was Cooper could never get his last name right, and Ben was pretty ticked about that.

His point was we've recruited plenty of Ohio QB's recently to disprove the person arguing we need to recruit more Ohio QB's, not how successful they were. I'm sure we're all well aware only Smith panned out.

Davis had academic issues....

Ross Oltorick is currently at Ohio State, albeit as a walk-on.

Anyway, splitting this off.

You forgot McFadden, who ended up transferring to Akron to play basketball.
Well that's certainly an argument for going harder after Ohio QBs.

How many boys from Michigan start at QB for the maize and blue? Probably as many from Ohio as from that state up north.

Any Ohio QB on the scouting list for the Buckeyes is also being eyeballed by other Midwestern schools, and if we're talking about someone with the build up of Zwick, the competition is spread even further.

If I'm that QB I'm also thinking about how fast can I start, do they play a style that will get me ready for a shot at the pros, will I have receivers, a line and RBs to support me, do I like and trust the coach, is he going to be there for 4 years?

I think the question Sportsmind asks would be better if accompanied by a list of QBs from Ohio starring at other schools and wondering how they got away. As far as I know the answer is none.
