UCLA offers Wheaton North's Graham
June 7, 2009
BY ADAM L. JAHNS ajahns@suntimes.com

UCLA to the growing list of major college programs pursuing Wheaton North quarterback Taylor Graham.

Bruins head coach Rick Neuheisel extended a scholarship offer to the 6-4, 215-pound junior on Saturday after Graham visited the school.

?[Neuheisel] said ?We want you to know we like you a lot ? keep in contact with us and we?ll get this thing going,? ?? Graham said.

Graham, a pro-style quarterback, also has offers from Iowa, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Arkansas and Duke. He also recently received an offer from Colorado.

His latest offer came just weeks after UCLA offensive coordinator Norm Chow stopped by Wheaton North to see his film and talk with Falcons' coach Joe Wardynski.

?Most of the offers I have right now would be good situations for me,? Graham said. ?I think a pro-style system would best fit my abilities. I think UCLA is one of those.?

The most impressive thing is that Graham has garnered attention from schools despite missing five games last season with a broken ankle.

?I was actually pretty surprised I got any offers,? said Graham, whose father Kent was a NFL quarterback and a former Sun-Times Player of the Year. "I was kind of prepared to hit up as many camps as I could.

"As the May evaluation period went on, I got a lot of good feedback from coaches. They liked what they saw on my tape and thought I had a lot of good potential. I guess they like my character.?

Is UCLA too far for Graham?

"I'm a Midwestern boy," he said. "But a three-hour drive or a four-hour flight isn't a big difference to me. I just want to go where I fit in best."

Nick Montana, Joe's son, is the No. 1 guy on ND's list, followed by Andrew Hendrix of Cincinnati Moeller. ND also has shown interest in Taylor Graham of the Chicago area, although there has yet to be an offer. Graham's father, Kent, played at Notre Dame before transferring to Ohio State.

Is he the next target for OSU behind Hendrix? I haven't seen any tape on him, but getting a QB in this class is a must.

Looks like a very good, wide ranging list of offers. IMO, he seems like the best fit for what the staff is looking for in this years QB. Though Montana and Hendrix could scramble very well, it seems like they were more catergorized as pro style with great arms by the services. The staff seems to want that style in this class, maybe another reason why Gardner wasn't ever offered, his throwing looked unorthodox to say the least.

Injuries aren't annual (unless you are the Browns), they come up and you have to be able to handle them. If Pryor is out for some games and Bauserman is your new starter, still feeling good about our backups? Exactly.

B) Aggressively in recruiting doesn't always refer to the sheer number of offers you've put out there, but how you go about it. We went hard after Montana and in the past it seems we'd sit and wait until he decided, but this year we moved quickly and aggressively once it appeared we wouldn't get Nick and moved to Hendrix very fast.
Who would you prefer at QB after Bauserman in '10- Guiton, Orhian Johnson, or a true frosh QB? Personally I'd go with Guiton, then the true frosh, then Johnson.. With not much difference in between any of them. Either way if Pryor & Bauserman go down, we're not having an amazing season. There's not a huge difference after Pryor and then Bauserman go down. Obviously another QB would be great, but not a must IMO.

Secondly, you say we recruited aggressively because we didn't "wait until he decided"... Who says we didn't? We have no idea what the staff may or may not have known regarding Montana. I think it's quite likely that Montana was very nice and told the staff that they should probably move on, something for which Montana deserves props. It really makes it a lot easier for coaches when kids are up front, and my guess is that's what happened.

Anyway, personally I wouldn't mind seeing an offer out to Graham. I would like the extra depth at QB and I don't see a ton of difference between Graham and Hendrix (but I'm not talent scout). Both have pretty solid offer lists.. But if the staff is confident about Hendrix (which I am), there's no real need to offer Graham.

I thought the walk on looked pretty solid in the spring game. I don't know that he will ever start without injuries ahead of him, but he does make it a little easier if OSU misses on a QB this year.

Could QB Taylor Graham be the man in MSU's future?
BY MATT DORSEY ? FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER ? June 12, 2009

Michigan State has been focused on Orchard Lake St. Mary's quarterback Robert Bolden for more than a year. However, the Spartans recently offered Wheaton North (Ill.) QB Taylor Graham and his recruiting stock is starting to take off.

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound quarterback now has offers from schools in the Big Ten, ACC, Big East and Pac 10. His most recent offer came from UCLA.

Graham is very polished for someone his age. Much of that can be attributed to his father, who is former Ohio State star and NFL quarterback Kent Graham.

Taylor will be in East Lansing this weekend, taking a close look at the Michigan State program. He hopes to make his college choice before to his senior year of high school.

Depends on who the true frosh is. If it's someone like Hendrix, I would much prefer him over Guiton or Orhian.

Secondly, it's possible Montana told the staff before that he wasn't coming so they decided to move on....but that seems highly improbable since it's been said OSU was his 2nd choice and was hard not to pick. So unless Nick had chosen UW before he even visited, it appears he never told the OSU staff that, but it's much more likely the staff saw there was a strong chance Nick's connection with Sark would be tough to beat, and they didn't want to lose out on Hendrix with ND heating up so they moved quickly.

I agree though that it seems we can wait some on Graham, especially since it seems Hendrix has it down to two schools (ND/OSU) so we can wait a little to see how it develops.

Scout$--Graham Shows His Stuff At Ohio State Camp

Taylor was reportedly very impressive at camp but didn't feel he performed well. He is supposed to contact the staff in a few days about a possible offer...which would put tOSU at the top of his list. He already has offers from Iowa, Michigan State and Wisconsin as well as UCLA, Duke, Colorado and Arkansas.

Maybe we get lucky here. An under-rated talent.

I got to see daddy play and boy could he throw a rope! Kent was a bit "stiff" though. Taylor looks like a better athlete.
