A Wolverine blog's take on Kenny, from watching him against Tiffin Columbian
Here's a long and rambling scouting report on Kenny from a Wolverine blog:
GBMW Go Blue Michigan Wolverine: GBMW: Friday Night Lights -- Kenny Hayes 2011 Recruit It's more than a scouting report, it meanders into musings about recruiting in general and evaluating recruits in general. It's actually extremely repetitive, and could have been cut to at least 1/3 the size without losing any content. Here's the relevant content: "Well what I saw was a good athlete, but to me he is very raw. This is, of course, not all that unusual for juniors, or even seniors He has all the measurable that most colleges like (big, somewhat quick, right height, can add good weight to him, and probably a kid that does well at all the camps and combines, etc.)." "On this night, I really did not see the hunger or drive you want out of a pass rushing defensive end. I know that Kenny really likes Ohio State. I know Ohio State has a good number of 2011 scholarships to give. But a very high-level football power may not be comfortable with Kenny as a first choice right now. Kenny is young and things change, so any judgment at this time would be very tentative and premature. This is a player I hope to see a couple of more times this year to see how he progresses, and also see him early on next year to see his improvement. " But then he immediately contradicts himself: "What I saw was a young player who played hard, and at times put pressure on the quarterback. I do not have the final numbers, but do not recall that many tackles (less than seven)." So take it FWIW. Any info is nice, right? |

Duane Long's take on Kenny:
Personnel Update "That brings me to the offer and commitment to Kenny Hayes, the likely five-star DE from Toledo Whitmer. I had heard nothing about him. It was all about Steve Miller. I wondered if with the current depth and the likely verbal from Miller that maybe there was not room for him. All of a sudden he is offered and commits. I have to wonder if the decision by Mobley had anything to do with it. The timing says it does. I saw him as a weak side end but he could play the strong side. He is a bigger kid than Miller. No question about that. He is supposedly up to 230 now. That piece of info would have prompted me to re-think his college position. We need to add strong side DEs and this kid has the potential to be an elite player. He is long with long arms and a great frame. When I watch his film again I notice he plays a more physical game than Miller. That fits perfectly into the role of the strong side defensive end. He runs great so he will be just as effective and maybe even moreso off the left side because he is not going to be going against elite pass blockers on that side. He still could be a weak side end. Don't count that out. You can never have too many of these long lean kids that can run." |

Chris Wormley is a sophomore defensive end for Whitmer that plays opposite Hayes. Nigel is indeed Kenny's brother. He's currently a freshman at Whitmer and is one of the best basketball prospects in his class from Ohio.
