I didn't realize that Kenny was visiting this weekend. I rushed the field after Barclay's field goal and I ran right by him - I loved the huge smile on his face as he watched everybody run onto the field.

STRENGTHS: Height, a big frame to build on, good athleticism and the excitement that comes from the fact that Hayes has not even begun to realize his potential. Hayes is a true 6-5 and he is a good athlete. He is skinny right now, but not to the point where you worry whether he can put on weight.
WEAKNESSES: Hayes is raw. He needs to improve his technique, especially how he takes on blocks and his pass-rushing moves. Nonetheless, he has a chance to be the best of the group of amazing underclassmen defensive ends in Ohio. - G.L.

Prep rivalry to take on collegiate twist

Whitmer's Kenny Hayes bleeds scarlet and gray.

And no, that is not a metaphor.

The story goes as follows. In seventh grade Hayes fell and injured himself while performing football drills with his father in the yard. In assessing the injury, Hayes noticed that his blood and the rocks that caused the bleeding formed to represent the color scheme of the university he would ultimately play for.

"He's been a lifelong Ohio State fan," Whitmer coach Joe Palka said. "He always envisioned himself as a Buckeye."
