What are you playing?
Give a short review... some recent ones for me:
Lost Planet, ok gameplay, a bit repetitive, but the variety of "mech warrior" vehicles... among others... and the sheer fun of delivering artillery-like destruction upon an area over and over again. Project Gotham Racing 4. Wife's first comment... didn't that (PGR) look better on your xbox? Looks very cartoonish. I have trouble disagreeing with her... the textures are quite lame... like a fancy new computer game being run on integrated graphics with the settings all the way down. Madden 08... spotty graphics (how many years before they debut yard markers, esp for replays). Better gameplay than NCAA. However, usually Madden is a much more polished football system... NCAA football is clearly nipping at it's heels. However, the players run at full speed... not the slow mo long, awkward strides of NCAA Football. Incredibly lame audio (lots of awkward jawing between players, radio analyst not booth announcers). Last edited by jwinslow; 02-29-2008 at 11:21 AM. |

I've been playing a lot of mods of Star Trek: Armada as of late, which basically make it Babylon 5: Armada or Star Wars: Armada. Basic real time strategy game, kinda like Starcraft.
Smash Bros. Brawl was fun when I tried it. I liked Pokemon Trainer the most, as he reminded me of Zappa from Guilty Gear XX Accent Core. I always get on my Xbox 360 every once in a while. I play some Live Arcade games, Halo 3, and a little Oblivion/Mass Effect. |

Madden 08;
Medieval 2: Total War and there's a Smash Bros Melee tourney next saturday at Gamsestop in our mall...I'm probably going to crush the competition. Winner gets a free copy of Brawl and sent down to regional play in Canton. This is gonna be great.... |

Burnout Paradise - a lil repetitive. Can drive city in it's entirety at once... great modeling and diverse routes, shortcuts and landmarks. Like other burnout games, it recaptures the pure fun of playing that is sometimes lost in uber-competitive games today (FPS, sports, etc). Sheer speed, destruction and wild action is a ton of fun... even if not overly original if you've played the others.
Battlefield 2 - Single player is a very poor man's COD4, both in graphics and gameplay. Xbox live registration down, so online was not tested. Army of Two... great concept and ideas, poor execution. 3rd person off-center aiming is very cumbersome, as well as close-range aiming. Hope someone builds on some of the teamwork based ideas who knows how to make a FPS. Aggro (cover fire attracting attention), teamwork based moves/objectives, etc. btw, on Madden 08... came to appreciate this more upon further gameplay. Greatly superior football action, and much more polished interface without the annoying bugs of NCAA. p.s. Trying these out every day or two on a $20 blockbuster game pass for a month, unlimited exchanges. |

Finally got my xbox but I had to buy a new one. Good news is though I got it for only 96$ brand new.
I've been playing mostly madden 08 especially since I updated the Browns roster to include the moves we made in free agency this year. I'm having lots of fun with this better team. D-line is now a lot of fun and Stallworth with Winslow and Braylon is almost unfair. ![]() |

I basically finished WoW, jumped on a few private servers and saw everything there was to see, did everything there was to do. Decided it wasn't worth paying for currently, so I dropped the monthly charge.
Instead I picked up Star Wars Galaxies again, mostly for the space combat. Theres something about doing the pilot thing, advancement, getting better ships and crafting/searching for new ship parts thats just fun to me. Its like Gran Turismo meets Star Wars. The ground missions and stuff are ok, doing jobs for Jabba the Hutt, joining the Rebels or Empire, all that good stuff. I mostly just blow crap up in space. Its especially fun if you get a multi-man ship, like the YT-1300( basicaly the Millenium Falcon ), stick a few friends in the turrets and mow stuff down. Besides that I'm playing Rock Band/GH3 with friends. They've been downloading the songs, I lent them the PS3, so I win there ![]() I've also been playing Final Fantasy IV( FF II for the old SNES ). Loved the game growing up, good story, decent music for an SNES game, revolutionary in its time. As far as NCAA/Madden I usually prefer NCAA. I don't find it to be any more buggy than Madden, I usually play on PS2/PS3. I prefer having the fight songs and all the college traditions. This year I've played more Madden than NCAA. After suffering through those games in the stands, it wasn't too believeable they'd go to an undefeated season on my PS3 ![]() |

MX vs ATV Untamed - Horrendous physics, and awkward collisions. Played motocross games in the mid-90s with much better gameplay. Stick to FPS, Rainbow.
Bully - Sort of a kid's version of GTA (except not kid friendly). Entertaining, if simple. Seems to be a port from last-gen, graphically and some awkward view controls. Tony Hawk Proving Ground - side games/tasks were too trivial, didn't play more than 30 min. Bioshock - Just got it, great graphics and immersive strange world... looking forward to exploring further. Will not be renewing gamepass at Blockbuster, but it was a fun investment for a month. Average selection (vs Gamefly, from what I've read), but the ability to swap out games immediately makes trivial rentals easier (ie MX-ATV). |

PSP - Starwars Renegade Squadron (Waiting for Crisis Core to come out)
Overall, the campaign part of the game is pretty quick and relatively easy, even on the limited respawns mode. The Controls could use a little work, but once you get the hang of them the game isn't that difficult. the PSP is a great system, but it seems it's also fairly rare I haven't found a whole lot of people to pair up with beyond playing Tekken.PS2 - GH3 Guitar Hero 3 rocks, nuff said, though on the PS2 you don't have the ability to download songs so it gets pretty repetitive. Wii - Zelda, twilight princess Still getting used to the wii controls, but I like the idea of the sword and shield in fights. I really haven't spent as much time with this game as I thought I would, the beginning is really slow and guitar hero came in my life. PC - Nothing, I just download porn and hang out on BP with this thing, occasionally I work too, but not too often if I can avoid it. The porn is nice, but those people on BP can be jerks. I have learned some valuable information though, there's very little that Dynasty won't hit, BKB has a thing for Cheese, Thump likes the butt, and Tibs likes to be a jerk all the time, I hear he's a doctor, so I fear going to get a physical. Mass Effect- I bought this game a few months ago when it came out. Fun game that can take many different turns. If you've ever played Knights of the Old Republic for XBOX it's very similar only takes the necessary steps on the next gen console. Give you lots of options. You decide on certain aspects of the game and which tasks and people you have around you.
It'll be interesting to go back and play this as a different character and see how it changes the game... |
