Deuce Fantasy Football Keeper League

This is for those interested in beginning a keeper NFL fantasy league. Rules/scoring will be the same as BP Deuce, unless the majority votes for a change. BP Deuce members get first dibs, and they are:

After messing around a little bit, it appears that I don't need to do anything to make this a keeper league until next year (at which time I assign keeper status to the players that everybody kept). We'll have to figure out the rules, so anyone that has actually done this before, sing out and let the rest of us know what works and what doesn't. Also, if anyone has ever been the commish of a keeper league, let me know if I need to do anything different this first year. I didn't see anything in the settings that I can change this year, but once we've assigned keeper status to players (such as next year), I can do that on the site. Anyone have any idea how players we should keep?

EDIT #1: Changed the teams to reflect who has responded so far. This shows 9, but only eight have actually signed up (jwins? - your team name isn't on the yahoo site).

I've never done a keeper league. So if I was to guess it would be the entire team and you only get players through trade. But that would suck for someone with a terrible first draft. So I think half of your starters you should be able to assign keeper status to. It sounds fair to me But I could be way off.

The last keeper league I was in (almost ten years ago and not online, mind you) we were able to keep eight players from one season to the next. That was a much different league though, with only ten teams, dual starting QBs and defensive players.

At it currently stands, we have nine starting slots on each team, counting flex, K, and DEF. I think it's important to strike a balance between allowing teams to keep enough players to reward those that make sound long-term choices, while still dropping enough players back into the draft pool to make each year's draft worthwhile.

I'm thinking that allowing teams to keep 3-4 players each year would be optimal. Even with each team keeping four players you could keep your top player at QB, RB, WR and TE and still have to draft for more than half of your starting lineup. Teams that are ultra-stacked would be forced to make decisions and drop really good players back into the draft.

If this is going to be a 14-team league like the standard Deuce league is, going with three keepers might be a better way to go for the sake of cycling some stronger players back into the draft pool though.

Three also inspires less hoarding for the future as well, when they really aren't that useful at the present time.

Ok, so Piney is out, to be replaced by Jake. BN27 is now out, and will be replaced by eobuck. Ahiacitian has dibs on the next opening.

Just signed up, my team name is Appalachia Moonshine. Being a 14 team league, rosters will be spread a little thin so I also agree with the 3 player keeper total. Sounds like a reasonable number, it lets you keep a couple of your best players that you really like to have, yet will allow the league to be mixed up enough that it lets everyone have a chance to draft some impact players next year if they don't do well this year.

I'll stick with the regular Deuce. The computer usually ends up picking my players for me anyway.
