Memphis team edges Dunbar in Myrtle Beach
By the Dayton Daily News
Dunbar didn't get the scoring balance it needed Monday, losing to Ridgeway High School from Memphis, Tenn., 51-46, in the opening round of the 16-team Beach Ball Classic boys high school basketball tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Daequan Cook had an outstanding game with 27 points and 14 rebounds for the 5-2 Wolverines. But no one else was in double figures. Mark Anderson (averaging 15.8) was held to three points and Aaron Pogue (12.0) to nine by the defending Tennessee AAA state champs, who are now 6-2.
Dunbar had 21 turnovers, which put it behind most of the game. A basket by Pogue got the Wolverines to within 47-46 with just under a minute to go. Ridgeway turned the ball over, and Dunbar had a chance to take the lead with 30 seconds to go, but Cook's 3-point attempt was short.
Ridgeway's Anthony Wooten and Malcolm Burton each made two free throws in the final 30 seconds to secure the win.
Dunbar plays 12-1 Monsignor Pace of Opa Locka, Fla., today at 1:45 p.m. Pace, the No.1 ranked AAAA team in Florida, lost Monday in the opening round to Lakewood St. Edward from suburban Cleveland, 72-62.

Dunbar's game from last night, sounds like a better all around game.

Dayton Dunbar (OH) 69, Monsignor Pace (FL) 64
By Richard Griffis
The Sun News
Star of the game | One day after being held to three points, Dunbar senior Mark Anderson scored 18 points to lead the Wolverines.
Turning point | With 5:35 left in the second half, Dunbar's Aaron Pogue pulled down the rebound of a missed three-pointer by Pace's Virgil Philistin, fired the ball down court to teammate Antoine Sain who converted on a layup to give the Wolverines a 58-54 lead they would not relinquish.
Game summary | Dunbar led by as much as nine points late in the first half before Brandon Williams closed with six points in the final three minutes to make it 34-33 at halftime. The teams traded leads four times in the second half before a jumper by Anderson with 11:37 left put Dunbar on top for good. The game remained close for most of the half with Dunbar finally taking an eight-point lead with 1:55 left. Pace pulled back to within four points after the Wolverines missed 3-of-6 free throws in the final 48 seconds, but could get no closer. Dunbar had four players finish in double figures: Anderson, Daequan Cook (17), Pogue (14) and Antoine Sain (10).
Monsignor Pace, which came into the tournament undefeated at 12-0, lost its second consecutive game. The Spartans were led by Rayford Shipman with 22 points and Brandon Williams with 21.
Quoting Dunbar coach Peter Pullen | "We played a lot better. I saw a team I'm used to seeing. We played with more energy. Pogue and Anderson gave us what they do on a normal night. We capitalized on some things that we didn't [Monday], like converting on fast breaks. Our decision making was a little better today."
Quoting Pace coach Mark Lieberman | "Not chasing loose balls, getting out-rebounded both games ... all the things that affect winning, we're not doing. I don't think we're playing very well. There are good teams here, but we're used to playing good teams."
