St. Xavier defeated Upper Sandusky, the defending Division II state champion, 94-62, at St. Xavier Saturday.
The Bombers, ranked No. 3 in The Enquirer Division I coaches' poll, snapped Upper Sandusky's 28-game winning streak.
"We've been playing well," St. Xavier coach Scott Martin said. "Our football players just got here this week and have made a fantastic conversion from football to basketball."
Sophomore forward Walt Gibler led the Bombers with a career-high 28 points, sinking nine of 13 shots overall and 10 of 12 from the foul line. He also had 10 rebounds. Senior David Gedeon had 22 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
Upper Sandusky (1-1) - Mason 1 0 2, Nelson 3 0 7, Bair 1 1 3, Diebler 12 8 33, Wetherell 2 1 5, Falk 2 2 6, Sebenoler 3 0 6. Totals: 24 12 62.

Update of the first two games on their schedule.....
Season opener....Upper defeated Wynford 83-56.....Diebler had 19 points, 9 rebounds, 14 assists and 9 steals.....
second game.....Upper defeated Fostoria 93-87......Diebler had 40 points.

USHS to play in Columbus
The Upper Sandusky High School varsity boys basketball team will play Hamilton High School at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 7 as part of the 2006 Ohio Scholastic Play by Play Classic in the Schottenstein Center on the campus of Ohio State University.
The Rams will play the fourth game of the day, which will consist of seven games featuring outstanding high school basketball teams from across the state.
Reserved seat tickets are $16 and $12. General admission student section tickets are $10. Each ticket admits the holder to all seven games played that day. Children age 2 and older must have a ticket. Children younger than 2 are admitted free, but must sit on the lap of their parent or guardian.
Tickets will be on sale in the USHS cafeteria during the USHS home girls basketball games on Dec. 20 and during the USHS home boys basketball games on Dec. 23 and Dec. 27.
There also are tickets on sale for all interested fans who wish to sit in the section behind or directly across from the Upper Sandusky home team bench. These $25 tickets and all other tickets are available by calling 800-462-8257 or may be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.com.
The complete schedule of games for the day is:
• 10:30 a.m., Jonathan Alder vs. Pickerington North (girls)
• 12 p.m., Zane Trace vs. Greenfield McClain
• 1:45 p.m., Taft vs. Brookhaven
• 3:30 p.m., Hamilton vs. Upper Sandusky
• 5:15 p.m., St. Vincent-St. Mary vs. Lancaster
• 7:00 p.m., Canton McKinley vs. North College Hill
• 8:45 p.m., Fairbanks vs. Worthington Christian

Willard defeated Upper Sandusky 102-79. Deibler, who played every minute for Upper, had 23 pts., 11 reb., and 4 fouls.

Diebler doesn't have the supporting cast of last season. Regardless, he is a great talent. I'm not sold on his dad as a coach though.
