2006 Ohio Boys Basketball Tournament

44820 - Hope you don't mind my starting this thread, but I just did something I have always wanted to do - buy an all sessions pass to the boys tourney (wife is out of town for a month and I wont hear a word about it).

Anywho, here are the matchups:

Division One:

Toledo St. John's vs Canton Mckinley
Lancaster vs Trotwood Madison

Division Two

Akron STVM vs Dayton Dunbar
Columbus Desales vs Wooster Triway

Division Three

Cincinnati NCH vs Archbold
Cleveland VA/St. Joe vs Wheerlersburg

Division Four

Cincinnati Lockland vs South Webster
Windham vs Columbus Grove

Would love to hear from anybody who knows anything about any of them.

Just a couple of observations based on reading the Dayton Daily to keep up with the hometown:Trotwood is really streaking and should pose a tremendous problem for Lancaster. I know Lancaster has three D-I players who go 6.6, 6.7, and 6.10 (Akron and Indiana State for two of them, third is a JR), but Trotwood has a few guys over 6.5 with athleticism (including Chris Wright-UD), so that shouldn't be a problem. I expect that to be a tough battle that goes down to the wire. McKinley is still in a class by themselves, however, and should be the heavy favorite to win the thing. Of course, they won it last year with only one blemish on their record. The culprit? Lancaster.

Akron St. V-St. M versus Dunbar should be for the state title. Akron pulled off a nice win to get to the state semis by beating an undefeated team from the Northwest (Willard). The Northwest produces lots of fine Division II basketball programs over the years (Ottawa-Glandorf, Upper Sanduskey, Willard, Norwalk, Van Wert, etc...), so Akron's victory is quite a statement. Of course, I enjoyed your earlier write-up comparing Cook to Jimmy Jackson in high school, and it would be nice to read a follow up along those same lines! ADD: While reading around, I came across the tidbit that Clark Kellogg's youngster plays for Columbus DeSales.

It would be fun to see Lighty's boys make a run at NCH, but it probably would not be much of a game should that be the final. That being said, I have to think David wants to come to Columbus and show better for himself than he did against Dunbar. Would love to hear him putting up a valiant effort against OJ and Billy.

No problem, its a good idea.

Quote:
Toledo St. John's vs Canton Mckinley
Toledo St. John's is a very explosive offensive team but I think Canton will be to much with Raymar Morgan.

Quote:
Akron STVM vs Dayton Dunbar
Akron is a very good team and they have Marcus Johnson I believe but Dunbar with Cook and Pogue will be to much in my opinion.

Quote:
Cleveland VA/St. Joe vs Wheerlersburg
VASJ is obviously led by Lighty but they are not a one man team, I think they will win this one, but I have a hard time believing they will be able to handle NCH.

DI - Canton Mck.

DII - Dunbar(I think they are the more talented team)

DIII - NCH(I would love to see Lighty lead his team to victory, how sweet that would be.)

DIV - Grove, just b/c that is lima area, I have no idea about any of these teams.

Toledo St. Johns is fundamentally sound. They beat i think 3 or 4 top 10 teams in a row to get to the final four. Toledo St. Francis (us), Toledo Scott, and Mansfield Senior, i think there was another. If they get hot when they are shooting, they dont cool down. They always come out sloppy, but as the game goes on, the better they get. They have a forward in Taylor (who i think is 6'8) who will give Morgan all he can handle. I wouldnt be at all suprised to see SJJ pull off the upset.

St. Johns is probably going to get beat. As much as i love my school i understand that we are playing CM. St. Johns has a great defender in Ware, although he is 5-8 has held every opponents leading scorer to 10 points or less (when he is guarding them). Mike Floyd is solid all around the board, he doesn't have a great shooting % but he plays with heart and passes well. John Dunn is our leading scorer and OK at D he has the ability to shoot from anywhere on the floor (and he still owes me a quarter). Joke "Jack" (i cant spell his last name) He is probably the best shooter we have and when he gets hot he is one of the best shooters I've ever seen. Joes is also really really good at D. Andrew Taylor "A Tay" is our big man. He has the ability to make 18 footers but is best in the paint, no that great at free throws, and good at rebounds. Our 6th man Mike Taylor who is a freshman who plays like a senior he can make a big play anytime. If were going to win its going to be cuz we get a lead then HOLD THE BALL. I hope we get a lead then hold it. (There isn't a shot clock in high school if I'm mistaken.) CM's offense is too good to stop. A "stall" win might be cheep but it's still a win.

D1 - McKinley defends the title
D2 - hoping to see Daequan win his first championship on the court at VCA
D3 - NCH is untouchable. They were +50 on a team in the REGIONAL FINALS. 'nuff said
D4 - Don't know anything about those teams.

Does anyone know if ONN will televise these games like they did for football? I can't find anything on their website saying they will.
