Wildcats realize in order to get back to regional finals, they must be disciplined

NEWARK -- Returning three starters from a team that finished 24-2 last year, the Newark boys basketball team will take plenty of momentum into a season that starts Saturday at Briggs. But as practices began last week, the Wildcats realize what lies ahead in them in trying to repeat their success.

Wildcat supporters pack arena, partake in team victory

COLUMBUS -- It was a neutral site for the Division I state final Saturday at Ohio State's Value City Arena, but Newark's rabid fans gave the Wildcats a home court advantage. With fans scattered around the arena and a vocal mass on Newark's end, the Wildcats treated the large number of supporters to the school's first state title since 1943 with a 65-52 win against Lakewood St. Edward.

Newark wasn't even supposed to get out of the Central District tournament. So what were the Wildcats -- seeded sixth in the district just four weeks ago -- doing last night in Value City Arena, upsetting Lakewood St. Edward 65-52 for the Division I state championship?
