Biddle turns the tables on greynold's coaching comments by reminiscing about the way GlenOak was manhandled by St. X in the state semis during KK's senior season including a lopsided rebounding stat.

hooley did the same on the fan today. he apparently called and emailed greynolds. put a call in to the ad at glen oak. spiels and hooley took some decent shots on the guy.

that being said, this discussion gets no one anywhere. well except for maybe on journalist in canton...

I am not much of a basketball guy, but doesn't the situation pretty much boil down to this:

OSU did not have a natural center. KK is a forward but also happens to be 7'1". The team needed KK to play center (if he did not then Hunter or Terwilliger has to). Even if it was not his natural position, KK at center was better than the alternatives.

This might not have been in KK's best interest (though others might argue it was, because it might teach him to be more physical, box out, post-up, etc) but it was in the team's best interest.

Basically Matta did what was best for the team, rather than one individual player, and he gets ripped for it by a high school coach.

Right or wrong?

I think Matta always does what is best for the Ohio State basketball program. The person who is complaining is Kosta's high school coach. No more needs to be said about his high school coach. Enough is enough.

If a high school coach makes unprofessional comments and personal opinions via a newspaper about tOSU then that person is open to critical remarks in my opinion. The same goes for the writer.....Todd Porter...he doesn't cover tOSU basketball so no problem for him....the article is trash and based on no facts...just "rumblings" and unamed sources.....he didn't even contact the tOSU athletic department prior to the article.....my guess is because he knows what kind of article it is.

but, i dont think that belongs in kostas thread. i have yet to hear a negative peep out of him personally. no matter his feelings he has acted very mature and let all this play out. now he may have a role in it but id say maybe a rumor mill thread would be more appropriate...

And that is why he is a high school basketball coach and Thad Matta has an excellent record at the collegiate level and is the coach at The Ohio State University. I don't think any more has to be said.

Canton GlenOak coach Jack Greynolds Jr. doesn't think much of the way his prize pupil, Kosta Koufos, was treated at Ohio State. He apparently buys into the rumors that Buckeyes coach Thad Matta held him back in the weeks leading up to the NBA draft to try to persuade him not to enter it as a freshman.

"People forget that. He turned down all that -- tax free -- to stay at Ohio State and play," Greynolds said. "That says something to me about the kid. If he's going to bust his butt for me as a coach, I'm going to bust my butt for him. Most kids and probably every adult would take that deal.
"Kosta really kept his composure this year and with what he's said publicly. As much as he was getting screwed over, he always said the right things in the paper. He's not like some of the turds they recruit. He's a great kid. I can't tell you how much that upsets me."

"Listen, if you can't get along with a kid like Kosta, then you're clueless," Greynolds told The Canton Repository. "If you're making $2 million a season and can't figure out how to use a 7-foot-1 kid, you're clueless. If you can't get along with a kid who comes early, stays late and gets good grades, you're clueless, and you've got the problem."

Yeah, Thad Matta is making a ton of money at a powerhouse major college that he took to the national title game about 15 months ago, while you're a high school coach, and yet he's the one that's clueless.

Greynolds seemed bothered that the Ohio State coaches were a little irritated about possibly losing a scholarship because of the way Koufos withdrew from school. He thinks they should be grateful, especially after Koufos rebuffed an offer of $6 million, a house and a car to play last season in Greece to honor his commitment to OSU.

Right. We should be grateful to lose a scholarship in return for his 14.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game, for one year. STFU.

No crap. Thats like me saying, "The nation should be grateful I am in the armed forces instead of out making tons of dollars in the corporate world." NO! I made my choice, I don't regret it, and neither should Kufos's high school coach. I'm sorry but the way he left Ohio State may have been quiet, but it was distracting. Greynolds is the epitome of an asshat! Sorry man, but you are no longer needed in Kufos's life, after he left High School, your say pretty much went out the window. Get over it, shut up and move on.

I try to remember that this coach probably has invested a lot of his identity in this player. He came to Ohio State and may not have lived up to the coach's expectations. This was his star, his once in a lifetime player.

When I take that perspective, I understand why he might be disappointed. Now I hope he understands that these kinds of comments don't do anything to put Koufos in a good light. And they put Coach Greynolds in a worse light. He needs to keep his caustic opinions to himself.
