"And the last one will be Ohio State in January. He doesn't have the exact date for that one." "Everybody has offered him." "Right now I'd say it's between Ohio State and West Virginia," Ginn answered when asked about Smith's leader. --------------------------------------------- regardless of the fact of when he was offered, or whether it was contingent on grades, etc., it's BESIDES THE POINT..............point is he genuinely liked WVU as his leader, and chose OSU at the last moment, although he flip-flopped between OSU and WVU during the process.........it wasn't because they finally offered him, he didn't make up his mind until after his visit and specifically said it was because that's what his mother wanted..........i don't know how much clearer i can be in illustrating this point...........spin it any way you want but it's all right there in black and white.............i just don't understand why people want to act like every Glenville guy was a stone cold OSU lock from day 1, and ignore the facts and the obvious in the process............it was simply not the case with Troy Smith now if you want to talk about Lenix that is a different story, he came out and said "this is the offer i was waiting for", and everybody knew that, but it wasn't the case with Troy Smith Last edited by MistriBuck; 03-10-2005 at 05:26 PM. |

matter of fact, i would say that he probably STARTED the pipeline, he was followed by Hiley and Whitner, then by Ginn Jr., and the newest tarblooders...........needless to say, once we snagged Smith, it helped us in landing Hiley/Whitner, and then a domino effect.............in Duane's recruiting stock report he only had Hiley in the 50-75% range to choose OSU all along up until the end when it become clear he would commit to the Bucks.........in other words he wasn't a guarantee either..........but once a few guys chose the Bucks, it obviously has made it easier to land future Tarblooders...............what if Troy had picked WVU, would things be different? who knows???! my point is, that people are making this out to be something it is not.........we're fortunate that things have developed the way that they have at Glenville in OSU's favor..........but Chris Pool quotes something directly from Ginn Sr.'s mouth in regards to the "pipeline" and people still can't take that at face value Quote:

Mistri try not to take this as a slam because it is not meant as one, but I was just wondering what is your obsession with Glenville and Ted Ginn Sr? You have argued the point that not every kid in Glenville will come to OSU on Bucknuts and now here into the ground. We get your opinion on the subject. Yes you have some really nice lines of print to back your point, but saying things like:

My opinion on the subject remains that a recruit will usually, and has the right to do what is best for them regardless of outside pressure. When a kid is deciding where to go, all of the following influence his decision: Location, Tradition, Visibility, H.S. Coach, College Coach, Depth Chart, Chance to Win, Play Calling, Family, Friends, Childhood Favorites, Area of Study, Campus Atmosphere, Weather, Etc. I tried to bold factors that likely give tOSU an IMMEDIATE edge just by the player being from Glenville. For the sake of simplicity, let's say they choose the school with the most of these factors fulfilled. OSU already likely owns 9 out of 16. Naturally there is a weight to each advantage, but it is still a lot for any other college to overcome.
A "pipeline" such as this is created because it really does usually turn out to be the best life decision, not because a coach is selfishly pushing his will. I'm sure coach Ginn wants what is best for the kids, and I believe other schools legitimately have a shot but in the end we usually just have more to offer. |

and i don't mean to be a dick about this: i understand that you are only trying to help by pointing out how my comments "alienate" others, but please, i don't need to be coached, i fully comprehend the impact of what i choose to say................if i hated red chiclets, or were focused on accumulating green, i'd be more cautious about my words and you'd see me kissing ass................not my style Quote:

i've said it before, my ego does not evolve around my rep, i don't CARE if it is red or green........would i PREFER it to be green? sure, who wouldn't..........BUT, when the object of being on this board is to discuss buckeye football and other random subjects with thousands of anonymous people, what is the point of going around displaying the fact that a few people took issue with some of the things i've said and labeled me "scUM"?...............if i'm involved in discussions with posters who don't know me from Adam they may ignore my posts, or have a skewed view of it b/c of the red rep, and that could take away from the discussion...............and when it's green i might as well have it on for the same reason...................but i don't wear it as a badge of pride, and what's wrong with being curious about a ding? or making a joke about it? (such as this one: BN27 just dinged me for the fifth time, goddamn that kid has some issues!!!) <|------------ clarification, i'm not whining, i think it's funny that this dude gets so wrapped up in this [censored] and makes a point to ding me every chance he gets, therefore i say something about it because it's funny to me, and i like pointing out what a clown he is Last edited by MistriBuck; 03-10-2005 at 07:22 PM. |
