I don't think Mistri is selling short the Glenville "pipeline". I think, instead, he is offering insight into the Daven Jones commitment to Wisconsin. It's a lot softer on the ego to think that Daven just wasn't our type or that Tressel told Ginn Sr. that Jones wasn't going to get an offer and he should commit elsewhere.
The truth is, we've been spoiled by a trend of guys from Glenville that grew up Buckeyes and wanted nothing more than to play for OSU. They waited on our offer based on hope we had given them (provided they meet certain requirements, usually academically). This time, there was a guy that liked us, but knew Wisconsin was the place for him. This doesn't mean the pipeline is closing for us or opening for the Badgers. The only thing that has changed is that we cannot say any Glenville player is an OSU "lock". Ray Small COULD go to USC, Rose could opt for another school. I'm not saying they will, but it just demonstrates how fortunate we have been to have this relationship with Coach Ginn and Glenville schools. I believe it will continue, but with the wide array of personalities and talents, it's not wisdom to really believe we'll get them all. I still think we have a distinct advantage in these situations for the reasons I mentioned in other posts, but I don't believe we are always the run away winner that many of us would like to believe. |

I think it is true to not get cocky about landing all glenville recruits, but what are the experts saying about this kid? We've got chances with prospects like Jamar, the #1 WR in FL, does this kid come close to that?
I don't know, I just think it is also presumptious to think that tOSU would have offered him. I think we're overflowing with talent right now that wants to hop on board, and WR is not a priority in this class (especially if we can land a two way guy like Hornsby). |

I just want to ask this question again. What is a pipeline? Let's think about this. Regardless of what TG sr says about a pipeline.... the quote above says that there are plenty of other reasons to go to Ohio State for Glenville kids that Mr Ginn. Pipeline? Maybe. Smith, Whitner, Ginn , O'neal... etc. Who Cares really? Well-- I'll Answer my own question. The people who care... are the people who want to recruit these guys from an incredibel bubble of talent from an incredible coach... The reality is.... this run Probably won't last... and so what if it doesn't... there is a pipleine at leat in one respect. TGI sent his son to play for JT. That means he has tremendous credibility for anyone else on the fence. On the other hand.. he would not... no more than you or I... waste a young man's opportunity to succeed in life elsewhere... So.. you guys can troy Smith, Pierre Woods, and whoever else all you want... Bottom line is... we are where we are... because of Coach Tressel. Maybe this is the pipleine... Maybe tehre will be others... so whaT? Just win baby. |

Wonder how long until Ted Ginn Sr. gets a offer to coach at the college level.

(i'm repeating myself again but i want to make sure i'm very clear on this thing)
AKAK, i don't disagree with one thing you just said, and as Oiler pointed out, i'm not selling short the pipeline or saying that there isn't one.........as i've pointed out (very clearly i believe), my whole point is that things just aren't exactly as some would like to believe, these guys aren't automatic to OSU, although it is highly likely they will go to OSU based on all the factors discussed |

Obviously no one is "automatic" to any school. That said, there are certain schools and certain programs that go hand in hand, and every fan of said school has to feel good about signing a stud from there. For instance, Miami has signed one or more kids from Miami-Northwestern for something like 8 years in a row now. That is a pipeline. Glenville has sent seven kids in 4 years to OSU. That is a pipeline. I don't think anyone who follows recruiting seriously considers any Glenville kid a 100% lock, but at the same time, anyone who would place serious $$$ on a Glenville star not going to OSU if offered would be a fool. Most kids are actually looking to stay close to home if they can find a school that meets the criteria close by-bigtime program, wins, quality coaches, etc.
