Glenville is the highest-ranked area football team in this season's first weekly Associated Press state poll.

The Tarblooders (3-0) are second among Ohio's Division I teams, behind only Cincinnati Colerain, according to a panel of writers and broadcasters from across the state. The Plain Dealer ranks Glenville first in its seven-county coverage area.

That was a big win vs TJ last week is no joke. TJ has had a great program the last couple of years. I do believe TJ is AAA and not Quad A but none the less a good win for Glenville.

Glenville football coach Ted Ginn Sr. said he could understand if his team was guilty of looking ahead to a possible rematch with St. Ignatius. That doesn?t mean he wanted to tolerate it.

The Tarblooders committed five turnovers in the first 29 minutes but still had enough in the tank to beat a game Brecksville-Broadview Heights team, 35-8, on Saturday in a Division I regional quarterfinal game in Bedford?s Bearcat Stadium. That victory, plus St. Ignatius? 37-0 win over St. Edward, sets up a rematch between the top two Division I teams in Northeastern Ohio on Saturday at a site to be determined early this week. Glenville won the first game, 20-17, on a field goal by Marvel Brooks on the last play.

"We made a lot of mistakes," said Ginn, who hinted before the game that his team had a hard time maintaining focus. "But, the kids are excited about being in the playoffs. They get all hyped up."

Added cornerback Christian Bryant, who made two key defensive plays: "We?re really excited to play them again."

Nordonia quarterback Craig transfers to Ginn Academy - cleveland.com

CLEVELAND - Junior Demetrius Craig, who started the last eight games at quarterback for Nordonia last fall, has transferred to Ginn Academy and intends to try out for football at Glenville, pending approval from the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

His father, Larry Craig, said the decision to transfer from the Summit County school to Ginn Academy in Cleveland had nothing to do with athletics.

"I made this decision as a parent," said Larry Craig. "I could care less about athletics. Playing football is my son's idea. It is secondary to me. I am more concerned about getting my son prepared for college. My son needs to raise his GPA and I feel the Ginn Academy is better suited for him."

Larry Craig said his son, 18, is living independently in an apartment in the Glenville district.

"He is 18, has his own car, has a part-time job and has his own finances," said Larry Craig. "He can live wherever he wants."

The OHSAA bylaws state a "self-supporting student" must be approved by commissioner Daniel Ross and self-supporting documentation must be submitted for approval every 30 days by the high school principal. Ginn Academy has not sent an initial application yet, said Deborah Moore, the OHSAA associate commissioner for eligibility.

He's actually at Bedford now. Or at least he was planning on it a couple of months ago, because he never showed up at Glenville.

So, what's the opinion of the St. Ignatius vs. Glenville game on the 29th?

I'm not very familiar with Ignatius' talent level, other than Kevin Johnson and Scott McVey. I assume they have enough to replace the guys they lost to graduation.

Glenville won their annual scrimmage against Y-town Mooney, but they weren't very impressive from a team standpoint. There was a big emphasis on leaders stepping up in the practices before the game, and Coach Ginn was not very happy with the results. Jonathan Newsome and Marcus Hall were big-time leaders of the team last year, and the coaches are looking for the seniors to step up right now.

I'd like to see a game as competetive as last year's, but things aren't the same on the Glenville side of things. A lot more youth at almost every position. Not sure on a score prediction yet, but I sure hope Glenville comes together a bit more in the last week of practice.

For all you Columbus area Buckeye fans, Glenville will be in town to take on Reynoldsburg in the 2nd annual Spielman Gridiron Classic. The September 5th game will start at 7:30pm at Reynoldsburg High School.

I recorded the STO, Glenville, St. Ignatius game last night. Glenville has a JR.
quarterback (6'5" 210) that I think will be one to watch. He is very raw at this point but incredible potential.

I'll bet the game will be rebroadcast, well worth watching.

I watched it twice. Glenville should have won. A few penalties, at the worst time. That QB is fast as heck and OSU commit LB Mcvey is really fast but, couldn't catch him from behind, a few times. Those Lineman for Glenville dominated both the lines most the game . The two head coaches showed so much love/respect too each other after the game.Very Classy

His name is Cardell Jones. Massive potential, but yeah, awfully raw.

How is Jones' arm? Would he be the QB target for 2012? Very surprising because I heard Ginn Sr. doesn't play juniors often.

He has a cannon for an arm, 50 yards plus, on a line, in the air. What he needs is coaching and experience. Also, showed poise, and decent decision making for a young player.

Jones, has what I'll describe as a "God given gift of elusiveness". One play in the first half really stands out in my little mind. The entire SI D-line had broken through, Jones tucked the ball and faked running the ball straight up the middle of the pocket. All the SI players went for the fake, and lunged for nothing but air. Jones calmly trotted his little fanny, and the ball for a nice gain to the left side.
