I wasn't sure where to put this thread, so I apologize if it is misfiled.

In any event, this is the time of year when I like to open up the checkbook a little and spread some of my good fortune to those who maybe haven't been as lucky as I have. With all of the Ginn talk lately, I started to think about Ginn Sr and all he has done for the Glenville. He really seems to be a saint for many of these kids. My question is this - does anyone know an address or a person to contact if one want to donate some $$ to the Tarblooder program?

I don't think I'm violating any NCAA bull$hit regulations or anything. But I would appreciate it if anyone had any info on this at all.

Just contact the school and I'm sure they will give you information about becoming a booster or making a donation to the athletic department.

All jokes aside NYB, I'm sure Clarity wouldn't mind a donation to help with the costs of BP. Not trying to tell you who/what/where to donate, just thought Diha... Alan made a good point. Nice thought... Ginn Sr. does seem to do a lot for kids between a rock and a hard spot. I'm sure the money would be put to good use (heck maybe they could put the money into a scholie fund for kids with good grades that cannot afford to go to college any other way)... As stated I'm sure the link provided will get in touch or at least headed in the right direction as to who you need to talk with...

Thanks to all for the kind words and the information. I really feel though it is a moral obligation for me to spread it around a little this time of year.

gbear - Donating appreciated stock is SUCH a great way to give. You dont have the pay the capital gains, yet you get a write off on the entire amount!

In Glenvilles case though, its probably easier for them if I just donate $$.

I'd have to put in another plug for contacting Clarity. From reading the sound off in the open forum it sounds like his income has taken a bit of a turn for the worse since he started BP. Also congrats on your blessings.

If you are donating to a school make sure you check and see if your employer has matching donations. Here is Arizona I get to a dollar for dollar tax credit on my state taxes for donating to a school. If I itemize the deduction you can take it as a write off on you federal taxes My employer also matches my donations to schools so I can double up my donating powers. Matching employer donations also should be considered if you donate to your college like OSU.

I was curious and had to look up what a tarblooder was:

The school's nickname is Tarblooders. A "tarblooder" is a railroad term, referring to the workers who laid down the heavy ties and cemented them with tar. They were considered hard-working and dedicated men who went far beyond the pale in doing their jobs. "A tarblooder to me is one of the most, if not the most, creative high school mascots in the country," Troy Smith said. "I don't know another team who has the tarblooders as their mascot. There's a lot of eagles, there's a lot of tigers, there's a lot of panthers. But there's only one tarblooder."

Note: Troy may not be familiar with all the NCAA rules, however, he knows what a tarblooder is.

Anyone know how Glenville got that name? Are the girls teams the "tarblooderets" or "lady tarblooders"? Neither sound to feminine.

I think he is refering to the Tarheels. Here is what a tarheel is:

The University not only uses the nickname "Tar Heels," but the entire state does as well. One version of the nickname's origin has the name first being applied to North Carolinians during the Civil War. One record talks of a battle in Virginia, where their supporting column retreated, but North Carolina troops fought alone.
