Tarblooders hold on to Senate seat, rout Flyers
Saturday, October 27, 2007

Plain Dealer Reporter
Some things never change in the Senate Athletic League, especially when the opponent is Glenville. Not even for the most anticipated football game of the season.
The host Tarblooders continued their league dominance Friday with a 53-0 victory over Cleveland South in front of Senior/Parents Night crowd at the Collinwood Athletic Complex.
The win not only assured Glenville (8-2, 7-0) of a 10th straight league championship, but also kept its Divi sion I, Region 1 postseason playoff chances alive.

Spartans stopped near goal- Blitz on Vindy.com - Youngstown, Warren, Columbiana, Mahoning Valley High Ohio School Football

TWINSBURG ? The scorebook doesn?t lie, but it sure can mislead.
Twice on Saturday night, the Boardman High football team had a first-and-goal inside Cleveland Glenville?s 8-yard line. Twice, the Spartans failed to score.
It proved fatal.
?You?ve gotta score when you get inside the 10-yard-line,? said Boardman coach D.J. Ogilvie following his team?s 21-3 loss to Cleveland Glenville in a Division I regional semifinal Saturday night in Twinsburg. ?At this level, you?ve gotta be perfect.?
The Spartans? special teams played a big role in the loss. Senior kicker Phil Curl was 1-for-3 on field goals, the Spartans gave up an 81-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on the first play of the second half and Boardman struggled all night with its punting.

Shane Wynn was called up to the varsity football team early last week, so the Glenville freshman just assumed he'd never play such a big role in such a big game.
So much for assuming.
It was Wynn's 81-yard touchdown run on the opening second half-kickoff that broke the Tarblooders loose and broke Boardman's back in a 21-3 Division I regional semifinal victory Saturday night at Twinsburg's Tiger Stadium.

Glenville camp stop: Tarblooders, St. Ignatius settling things early this year
by Tim Warsinskey Thursday July 31, 2008, 7:33 PM
Plain Dealer file photographGlenville's Marcus Hall (79) celebrates with teammate Shannon Frieson (21) after the Tarblooders scored a touchdown last season in a playoff win over St. Ignatius. The teams frequently meet in the postseason. This year they square off in Week 1.
Four of the last five seasons, Glenville and St. Ignatius have met in a playoff game that ended one of their seasons. This year, they'll start the season playing each other Aug. 23 at Byers Field in Parma. As two-a-days began Thursday, the Tarblooders sounded as though they couldn't wait.
"That's all we think about is Ignatius in practice," quarterback Terrance Owens said. "They've got a nice a little program. They're disciplined, they're smart. We've got to get them. It's a must-gotta-win."

Nike gets assist in Glenville's revamped facilities High School Sports News - High School Scores and Schedules with The Plain Dealer
Quote:
Glenville's football team didn't need added incentive heading into Saturday night's season opener against St. Ignatius (Watch live streaming video of the Glenville-St. Ignatius game on ohioHSsports.com tomorrow at 7:15 p.m.), but players got it Thursday morning when Nike surprised the Tarblooders by unveiling a refurbished team room.
The room, which is in the school's basement and was blocked off while work was done to keep the unveiling a surprise, has a fresh coat of red paint, a newly painted Glenville logo on the back wall, some new furniture and a 50-inch plasma TV.
