I recorded the game at home, but listened to it on the radio from the in-laws.

I recorded the game at home, too. I was working, and ONN isn't available on the Dish Network...

Sounds like it was a great one.

Congrats to Mentor on their first ever trip to the finals, and congrats to Hilliard Davidson on their championship.

Bells Amber, eh? I'd say come drink it at the pub, but since BKB drained the keg, it's been replaced by Bell's Hop Slam... so I guess I'll be hitting the liquor store!

Sorry for this being long-winded, but I thought some people might wanna hear this if they didnt get to experience this classic.

Ok, WOW. This was our 6th game outside in the cold, we were tired, shivering, and hungry. That ALL went away when this game started. If apples were ever to play oranges, this would be the result. Hilliard can just line up with you and say "Ok, here comes an ISO left", and you still cant stop them. The blocking schemes are incredible, their coaching is amazing. Mentor can throw the ball all over the field. Hilliard had no answer for the one recevier (#84 I believe).

Mentor took a 14-0 lead after 2 incredible catches by their receivers against tight coverage. Hilliard then seemed to step back and say, "Ok, we're down 14-0, and they are throwing the ball effectively, let's keep it away from them." I dont know what the time of possession was, but it had to be about 85/15 in favor of Hilliard. They put together a long drive and cut it to 7 at the half. I have literally never seen a team that runs and blocks so well, that they do not have to bother throwing a pass.

Second half was more of the same. Hilliard drove and drove, fumbling on their first drive deep in Mentor territory. D made a stop, they drove right down the field again and punched it in to tie. Mentor then threw the ball right down the field again and scored to go up 21-14. Hilliard answered. Mentor had about 3 minutes to work with. They began moving again. Hilliard really didnt stop them all night long. Then came another one of those plays that will be known as "the call". Deep pass to #84 down the sideline again, and the DB simply knocked him down and picked the ball. Now mind you, I was not rooting for either team, and this was an obvious missed call that could have cost the game.

This coach from Hilliard is my hero. This guy has huuuuge brass balls. 2nd OT, he scores and can send it to a 3rd OT by kicking the extra point. He calls timeout. Crowd going nuts thinking he is going to go for 2. He sends out the kicker. They line up, try to get them to jump offside, and call timeout again. Out comes the offense. They run the exact same stuff they ran ALL night long, and Mentor still had no answer. I think he figured that they were gonna have to go for 2 in the next OT anyway, so why not beat them now. Couldnt have ended the weekend with a better game. I got home about 1:30, and now have to go to work. I am sad.........

BMAX - Your assessment was spot on with the apples to oranges comment.

#84 for Mentor is Brandon James. Excellent hands, good rout runner, and regularly gets the ball at its high point.

As for "the call", or the "non-call" as it were circa 1 minute left in regulation and Mentor driving, what made it appear worse than what it was (the play was in front of me and I did have a vested interest in wanting Mentor to win), was that as Brandon James was falling the official was reaching for his flag then proceeded to watch the INT and subsequent return. Honestly, if he threw a flag I don't know if anyone could argue and if he didn't throw the flag I don't think anyone could argue. If I had been the official, I wouldn't have thrown the flag since at worst it looked like incidental contact to me. In actuality, I believe that James simply tripped.

All I have to say.........is............Bo Delande (sp?) is a monster. He scored all of Hilliard's TDs, plus the 2pt conversion, scoring 32 of his team's 36 points.

Without him, they don't win.

I actually did not see it at all, by the time I looked down the field, he was already on the ground. I was just going by what the guys next to me said (neither of them were pulling for Mentor either), but I will take your word for it. It was a shame to see either team lose that game. I was in section 13, bout the 45 yard line.
