St. X(-4.5) vs. Coffman

I was asked to do this vBet. I have no idea what the line should be so if this is easy money consider it an early holiday gift to the members of BP.

I think that line sounds about right . Although St X is highly ranked, Coffman is highly powered. I'll throw in on my Alma Mater.

After watching them rip the head off a good Colerain team I can't see them getting stopped.

Look at trhe situation: 1,800 students, all boys, solid academic rep, huge endowment fund provides money for "diversity" scholarships, ability to draw from a vast geographic area, excellent facilities, excellent coaching, don't look for them to lose too many games in the near future or for many years to come.

Yep. And how Colerain lost the next game is beyond comprehension, but that's why they play.

But the apples to oranges comparison has more to do with the situations. How many high schools can draw from a geographical area as big as Greater Cincinnati? How many schools have 1800 boys to draw from for talent? That makes St. X twice the size of Moeller and Elder, almost three times the size of LaSalle. I think you'd have to go to St Iggy and St. Ed's to find schools of comparable assets and I'm not sure they can match that either.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out one of the major reasons why GCL schools dominate OHSAA competition; size. It also leads me to wonder how much longer the state is going to go with a completely open playoff system. Unless they make a "Super AAA" designation for St. X and other schools with more than 1K boys.

I'll confess to ignorance of the Columbus HS football situation but I can tell you that this St. X team is loaded and with Darius Ashley able to go they have one of the best RBs in the state.

The game will be carried on Ohio Fox Sports I believe.

There is just as much talent on Dublin. Mike Adams, Jacob Stoneburner, Trey Fairchild, Steve Gardiner, and Zack Stoudt.

I'm sure it will be a great game.

Coffman has a boys enrollment of 691 - however Dublin has a pseudo open enrollment system in which kids can enroll in any school they choose (though there a certain restrictions about transfers and athletics once they matriculate). Mr. Fairchild and I disagree to the extent of recruitment from the HS coaches, but it does happen on some level. The fact remains that Scioto has a boys enrollment of 436 and Jerome of 481. Therefore, Coffman has had access to 1608 boys in Dublin and, at present, seems to have found the best collection of football players. (Bishop Watterson, which also plays kids from Dublin, enrolls 388 boys).

The facilities in Dublin are as good as any in HS football... I'm not arguing against you, cinci, I'm actually agreeing. Just like your argument for GCL schools, non-city central Ohio schools have access to growing numbers and facilities. Thats why, in football especially, teams like Upper Arlington, Hilliard, Westerville South, the Dublins and DeSales/Watterson have had state-level teams (last 10-15 years).


P.S. Watterson also has 514 girls, so if any of you parents out there want your boys to meet nice Catholic girls, Watterson seems to be the place.

Actually two of Scioto's best football players open enrolled from Coffman to Scioto. Adam Morris and Ryan Pendleton and another starter on their D-Line (Duffy). All of those guys would have started somewhere on Coffman's team and Adam Morris has a full-ride to Ball State. Coffman could have benefited from having those kids who live in their district. Coffman currently has no "open enroll" starters but one of our main backups Mark Dotson is a Jerome guy that is here as a open enroll student.

But I do understand the point.

I put 10,000 on X because they are just simply a machine. They remind me of the Colerain team with Goodman, Simpson, Byrd, etc...I want to see them get beat but they won't. I really, really want to see Coffman beat them despite my massive bet on X...Go Rocks!

No debate - Scioto stole most of the returning lettermen in the Coffman district. All of the returning basketball lettermen stayed at Coffman, the younger baseball guys were evenly split as were the runners (because the track coaches were split).
