D4 State Finals: Mooney vs Coldwater
cleveland.com: Everything Cleveland
Quote:
Coldwater vs. Youngstown Cardinal Mooney
What, when, where: Division IV state final, 3 p.m., Paul Brown Tiger Stadium, One Paul Brown Drive, Massillon. Call 330-830-3901.
Records: Coldwater, 13-1; Cardinal Mooney, 14-0.
What to watch: It?s no coincidence that Coldwater, aiming for its second state title, won its first championship against the Cardinals, 33-9, in 2005, where coaches John Reed, (142-28 in 13 seasons with the Cavaliers) and P.J. Fecko (71-27 in eight seasons with Mooney) are masters at developing talent. The Cavaliers are scoring about 55 points per game in the playoffs, including last week?s 56-14 win over Williamsport Westfall. Junior running back Tony Harlamert rushed for 61 yards and three touchdowns and returned an interception 75 yards for a touchdown. Quarterback Cory Klenke was 8-of-13 for 149 yards and two touchdowns, rushed for 84 yards and also returned an interception 11 yards for a touchdown. Coldwater?s defense also had seven sacks and held Westfall to 16 yards rushing. Overall, Klenke has thrown for 2,394 yards and 29 touchdowns, rushed for 534 yards and four scores and also leads the team with 10 interceptions and two touchdowns. Harlamert has 765 yards rushing and 27 touchdowns, 678 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns, and six interceptions and two scores. Ryan Geier has 994 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns. The Cardinals are seeking their 30th straight win, second consecutive state title (third in four years) and seventh crown overall. But they?ll go with Tim Marlowe instead of quarterback and Notre Dame recruit Dan McCarthy, who injured his neck in the regional semifinals. But senior tailback and Penn State recruit Brandon Beachum (1,569 yards rushing, 17 touchdowns) can carry the load, and Mooney?s defense, which recorded its fifth shutout of the season, 28-0, over Marion Pleasant last week, has plenty of thoroughbreds, including senior linebacker Michael Zordich (109 tackles, 16.5 for loss).
PD pick: How can anyone pick against Mooney?

I thought I'd get a better reaction than that!
Here's to a clean game for both teams (I have no dog in this fight)!

just got done watching this game, and WOW!
Coldwater came to play in the 2nd half. Mooney was without McCarthy though which sucked. CW took a 28-21 lead late in the 4th, and Mooney drove all the way down and scored a touchdown with like 20 seconds left, only to have the extra point blocked. 28-27 Coldwater upset.
Coldwater scored two 2nd half touchdowns on trick plays, double pass and I think the other was a reverse pass.

Just got back from the game a little bit ago. Great comeback by Coldwater, including 2 huge gains on WR reverse passes. Mooney had times of pure dominance and times where they didn't look like they knew what they were doing. For a team with 4 bigtime D1 recruits on defense, they should never give up 21 unanswered. It seemed that Mooney expected to be handed the trophy. Coldwater definitely came to play.
Simon, Beachum, and Zordich were impressive. I didn't see much from Hill.
Fickell and Heacock were on the sidelines..

I watched it at home but, that might be the best high school game I've ever seen. That Coldwater coach is a great coach and all those players played with such desire and heart . It made me feel like that I was so dang lucky to even watch them play.
