Not sure if they updated it, but I saw Glenville at #38. In any case that is way too low...Iggy is #3 and they lost to Glenville 20-17 and only beat them 9-7 the next time around. Somehow that's 35 spots difference?

Those guys that do the rankings probably don't look at the scores and I would be surprised if they even knew who certain schools lost to. It is probably very similar to the coaches poll in college football

Glenville's ranking
Quote:
However, some of the high school rankings really do take into account who teams beat. CalPreps, the one that I typically look at, has a little bit of a California lean, but generally, they have seemed reasonable. calpreps.com -------------------------------------------------------------------- take Glenville...... We have seen them play, know that they have good players, and know that they will beat most teams they play. However, what did they actually do this year...... 1> The great: they played 3 games against teams in the national top 50 (StI x2 and PAJefferson), they went 2-1 2> the bad: everyone else they played, were duds (ranking-wise). Nearly half of their victories were against teams that ranked below 10,000. Much of that is a result of playing in Cleveland Senate League, so you can't really fault them. #1939 Brecksville-Broadview Heights #3558 Lincoln (Gahanna, OH) (31-0) #5210 Adams (Cleveland, OH) (37-6) #7360 South (Cleveland, OH) (19-0) #10787 Marshall (Cleveland, OH) (30-6) #12312 Collinwood (Cleveland, OH) (56-0) #13499 East (Cleveland, OH) (41-0) #13549 Lincoln West (Cleveland, OH) (40-0) #13620 East Tech (Cleveland, OH) (47-0) Other than StI., Glenville's next best in-state foe was Brecksville (in the playoffs), ranked #1939 (national) / #118 (state). Other than StI., Glenville's highest rated in-state regular season foe was Gahanna Lincoln (4-6, no play-offs), ranked #3558 (national) / #214 (state). -------------------------------------------------------------------- If you look at the OSHAA rankings (which typically gives a reasonable assessment of a team's ability)-- http://www.joeeitel.com/hsfoot They were 4th in their REGION (behind StI, Strongsville and Mentor). Their ranking 29.9929 is 14th in the state (StI, Strongsville, Mentor, Hoover, Upper Arlington, Hilliard Darby, Pick Central, Colerain, Toledo Cent Cath, DeSales, Louisville, Logan and Coldwater) -------------------------------------------------------------------- I think that I find it most interesting that in the several polls that I've looked at, the subjective ones have Glenville higher than most based on some algorithm |

I was looking at calpreps today and its ranking of Florida teams, particularly 6A and schools in the Miami area except for maybe 1 or 2 that I know from personal experience would be a bit differently ranked, does an outstanding job of ranking the teams. I'd have to put STA (St. Thomas Aquinas) #1 in the country. They flat out killed Miramar 49-2, a team that lost to Miami Northwestern by a 42-23 margin last week. Northwestern lost to Long Beach Poly 29-7 in a preseason game. In addition, STA beat Elder earlier in the year 35-24.

What's going to be interesting is this, Broward High Schools | MiamiHerald.com They are going to realign all of the high school football teams in the state according to this, FHSAA.org: Football I agree, I'd like to see STA vs. some of the other Ohio teams. I 'd also like to see Florida high schools continue to play against California and Texas teams. BTW, keep in mind STA will be on tv on Sunsports this Friday night at 7 p.m. and Miami Northwestern will play Saturday night on FSN Florida at 7 p.m. Those with regional sports package on their cable, satellite packages should be able to get this. |

56-7 Aquinas over Lakeland. No doubt in my mind Aquinas is the #1 team in the land.

I get a headache just looking at that calpreps site. The amount of data that they collect and put all in one place for someone who really doesn't feel like working today is pretty much evil. I could look at that stuff all day...
...anyway, how anyone can even somewhat accurately decide who the top high school team in the country is, I have no idea...but Aquinas sure seems like one heck of a good candidate. |
