Baylor Bears (cluster)

Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.
Re: Scheduling the "Little Sisters Of The Poor".

Baylor has been among the least ambitious non-conference schedulers among major FBS teams. Today, they continued that trend. The Bears added the University of the Incarnate Word to their 2019 slate. They undoubtedly will need a tune up before UT San Antonio and a brutal road trip to Rice.

Baylor's 'Sic 'Em' jerseys out

When adidas unveiled its new March Madness uniforms last week, the two designs that generated the most chatter were Baylor's home and road uniforms, which had "Sic 'Em Bears" on the chest.

Apparently those designs caught the NCAA's attention, too.

Baylor announced via Twitter on Wednesday afternoon that the team will not be permitted to wear the "Sic 'Em" jerseys:

Baylor will not wear "Sic 'Em Bears" uniforms in postseason. NCAA ruled only team name or mascot can be on front.

Baylor AD defends scheduling of Incarnate Word

During an interview on ESPN Radio Central Texas McCaw said Baylor has often scheduled one game against a program from the FCS within the region. With UIW moving up to the FCS and joining the Southland Conference, they fall within those parameters. McCaw defended that decision by referencing SEC schedules against FCS opponents and said there is no plan to change that scheduling structure in the future at Baylor. Baylor has scheduled an FCS team every season dating back to 2001. The defending Big 12 champions are scheduled to host Northwestern State in 2014, Lamar in 2015 and Northwestern State again in 2016. As noted byFBSchedules.com, a future game against Liberty is also on the agenda but does not have a specific date or year in place just yet.

As long as it's legal for FBS teams to play FCS teams, I have no problem with this. I think the risk/reward factor isn't real high for a lot of teams, but for others, it may be worth it.

Rewards: should be an easy win in most cases, get bench players some playing time, you get the revenue from playing at home
Risks: you might get Appy Stated

I wonder if Baylor will ever change it. Allegedly they are the only team in the Big XII that refuses to schedule an OOC game against a P5 team. Probably stemming from the days when they sucked so bad their only chance at the weed-whacker bowl was to win all of their OOC games. Even with that crap schedule, they did jump TCU.

What's the standard operating procedure for when you think a player MIGHT BE ineligible? Do you go to the NCAA and ask for a ruling before doing anything? Or do you have to make your own call and hope it's the right one?
