Any time you take your team to the Sweet 16 and the "fans" get 40K to sign a petition to bring back Bruce Pearl.......you should leave. He is losing a ton of talent though so why not start fresh at Cal with more job security, better academics, location, etc.?

Could have maybe risked it one more year and seen what happened to Painter up in West Lafayette- where he played 4 years and coached 8 more.

I actually think decently high of Painter, but Purdue could have made an interesting splash with a move like that. Certainly would have moved the Boilermakers ahead of the pack in the state of Indiana (depending what the Hoosiers do after 1 more year of mediocrity with Crean). Crazy to think the 2 flagship state universities in basketball-rich-Indiana may be looking at new coaches next offseason.
