Ohio State is now actively canvassing the state of Illinois for players. They have picked up on the trail of Class of 2007 St. Joseph High School stars Evan Turner and Demetri McCamey. They are also actively looking at the Illinois Class of 2008, a class which is loaded with a number of high-major talents.

Indiana may get a visit according to Turner. Evan recently took unofficial visits to Ohio State and Wisconsin, he will visit Wake on Memorial Day weekend and has also visited Illinois. Indiana, Illinois, Ohio State, Iowa, DePaul, Marquette, Miami, Notre Dame, Wake, Wisconsin, Virginia and North Carolina State have offered.

I just have that gut feeling about this recruitment that it might just turn out in a good way for us.

I am optimistic but I think its early yet and as usual the key will be to get him to make an official visit during the fall. I really like Turner, a smooth player who seems to play within the team concept and doesn't force things.

That's not what I've heard. I've heard this is pretty much a Wisconsin v. Illinois battle royale as of right now until possibly some other elite program throws their hat in the ring. Ohio State is bringing in Cook and Lighty in 2006, and that's plenty enough swingmen to deter 2007 swingman Evan Turner from giving Ohio State much of a second thought. I think in the 2007 class you guys are talking about 4's and 5's with Othello Hunter being a JUCO and Greg Oden inevitably a very early entrant to the NBA draft.

While I agree that depth could be a factor, you have to figure that Cook is going to be a two year at most player IMO and that would just leave Lighty, and Diebler coming in the 07' class. Matta is an incredible recruiter and when he watches Illinois struggle this next year and us being ranked in the top 5 and hopefully making a run in the tourney, and with Oden saying he is staying two year, and a chance to play with him and win a nc, might just put us over the top. Like I said I have no concrete evidence, I just have a gut feeling.
