Kid is going to be big time in '15. I could see him as a SDE or a 3 tech DT down the road with his body type...freak athlete for his size and so disruptive off the ball.

Seems weird that we hear absolutely nothing about this kid when he's a consensus 5 star right in Illinois. Also while it really has no bearing in many cases and is downright guesses at times, his crystal ball is 11/14 for OSU. Just seems odd the lack of....anything on him.

Agreed, I'm hoping thw staff is going full boar at him and we just dont know it yet.

This is really quiet here in this thread with the last post in March. However, over in 11W, it seemed every topic involving DL recruiting was referencing Beckner. I'd never heard of him, and had to look him up on BP. Very strange and quiet recruitment. Anyone know if he has been on campus?

According to Scout and Rivals and 247, he is up to over 290 now. Does he project as a DT now?

THE OPENING: TERRY BECKNER INTERVIEW
Terry Beckner is the lone representative of the state of Illinois at The Opening this year, but he did his part yesterday, performing well in limited one on ones.

The 6-foot-5, 290-pound defensive lineman has offers from around the country but said he has not narrowed his list and is still open to any and all schools.

In addition, a decision or even movement in his recruitment is not expected for some time.

"I'm going to try to do my visits after my season so probably after the All-American Game in January."

While the field is wide open, Beckner admits there are a handful of programs who he hears from more than the others.

"Really everybody that's after me but there's couple that standout," he said, "Missouri, Ohio State, Florida State, Illinois, Florida, Nebraska's been after me, Michigan State, there are a lot."

When Beckner does decide, he says academics and relationship with the coaches will be his primary focuses. With late official visits, he does expect to announce a decision, he says, until close to or on Signing Day.

While visits have been difficult to take, he did get to Missouri back in the Winter and has a former teammate in Greg Taylor and a current teammate in Natereace Strong headed there.

"I talk to [Missouri's coaches] very often on Facebook and it's really cool, but that's one thing Nate hasn't been doing is -- he hasn't been in my ear -- him or Greg."

Since Urban has been here I can tell Illinois is a state we have focused on. I cannot remember us recruiting Illinois so well. Usually it was ND and Michigan stealing all of their top players...I am glad to see we joined the party.

#OhioState could be the sleeper pick to land star DE Terry Beckner

That would be incredible. Kid doesn't talk to the media much, so it is hard to get a heartbeat here. But Beckner is a kid you take regardless...if we did land him, imagine the Midwest sweep of the elite DL that nobody saw coming (Cornell, Alibi, and Beckner). Throw in Jones and you already have an incredible DL class (not to mention MASSIVE), with Sweat being a potential incredible cherry on top. With the way LJ Sr. likes to rotate a lot, I could see 5 DL in this class if this were the scenario. All speculation at this point but nice to know...will definitely keep an eye on Beckner.
