OSU/PSU LB Depth (split from Dorian Bell thread)

If he can beat out Tyler Moeller, Brian Rolle, and Jermale Hines to be the starter on the strongside in 2009, that's awesome, but nobody is banking on it. He won't be coming to Ohio State because there is a lack of depth, because we have never been this deep at LB in my lifetime. He'll be coming to Ohio State so he can win Big Ten and national championships... something he won't be able to do at Penn State for the forseeable future.

It is pretty clear to see that shots were being taken at Penn State and the Penn State LB corps for no reason whatsoever. I don't even care if Penn State gets bashed over here because it is obviously an Ohio State recruiting board but if the bashing is necessary there could atleast be an attempt to keep the outlandish statements to a minimum. I'm not trying to clutter this thread or hijack it, but Penn State has more than a "few other guys". And the only starting LB from Ohio State that would start at Penn State is JL - the other two [Terry and whoever else would be on the bench]...likely behind our 2nd string LBs - the 2nd and 3rd string tOSU LBs certainly would not be starting at Penn State. As I clearly illustrated, your depth is not far from superior compared to Penn State...and certainly nowhere near FAR superior.
S&G:
1. Penn State has Lee and a few other guys, while Ohio State has insane depth at the LB position. Penn State has 9 four star linebackers, 8 with at least 3 years of eligibility [5 with 4 years]. That is not including 4* Tyrell Sales, 4* Sean Lee.
2. Just made me laugh when he said he was worried about depth issues at Penn State and then you look at our depth chart. Its really night and day our second and third stringers could start there. No knock on Penn State but thats the kind of talent we have here. With the exception of lee who is senior know one else really jumps out at me. Chris Colasanti will in '08, starting MLB. You haven't even seen 6 of them get on the field yet so it would be hard for them to 'jump out' at you.
3. Where if he went to Penn State i would be surprised if he didn't start next year for them. You would be surprised then. Don't get me wrong i think he will end up with S&G ME TOO but even with us graduating three senior starters our depth is far superior to Penn State Bullsh** or any team in the Big Ten.
I think you guys will get Dorian Bell though, and I don't think he will have any trouble beating out the the two guys in front of him because they are undersized [6'1-6' 205-215] and won't have the chance to emerge because you have 3 senior LBs starting. He'll certainly be a great pick up for tOSU and is definitely a loss for Penn State but unfortunately an in-state loss we can afford. If he was a WR or QB or OT I would consider tOSU a plague but we will live.

I understand you defending the "Lee and a few other guys" statement, ePkOoTms. (btw, if I ever type out your username again, don't expect me to follow the case pattern.) But I wouldn't trade our linebacking corps for any other team out there.
If Bell chose to come here, he would have to earn his playing time. Of course, that can be said for anywhere. If he's looking at successful teams, then each team he's looking at will probably be deep at the linebacker position. I have to think that Ohio State graduating three linebackers is a plus, whether we're deep behind the seniors or not.

Stop defending your team and start explaining why Bell would start here as a freshman. That is the subject of the post you quoted, after all.
Last time I checked, stars only meant something if the players developed. Bell certainly has the stars, but he'll still be a freshman. Say what you want about OSU's depth, but it's certainly not as bad as you think it is. Bell is a fantastic player and I'd love to have him, but you just don't join a top 10 recruiting school and start as a true freshman. We're not bringing in slouches every year.
And did you really say that Marcus Freeman would sit behind your second-string LBs? Weren't you the one who said keep the outlandish statements to a minimum?!?! You didn't even know his name; I have a hard time taking your PSU/ OSU LB comparisons seriously. No offense intended, I just have no other way to say it, really. You certainly did not illustrate much in terms of superiority, like you stated, or even equality. You'd have to know both schools' LBs for that to happen.
