Dublin Coffman High School is the home to numerous outstanding prospects for the class of 2008. While Mike Adams and Jake Stoneburner are collecting most of the early attention, Trey Fairchild is slowly gaining his own recruiting momentum as his highlight videos begin to make the rounds. Fairchild has speed...serious speed. He was clocked in the mid-4.3 range at the Rivals Elite Combine and is working on his fundamentals with former Ohio State wide receiver Reggie Germany. As a junior, Trey had 51 catches for 766 yards and 21 carries for 280 yards while scoring 9 times. He also returned 10 punts for 156 yards and 2 more TDs. There will not be any form of qualifying issues with this prospect as Fairchild reports a 3.7 GPA while participating in the Honors program at Coffman. Recently, Trey took a few minutes to speak with the BPRT and complete the "Straight 6."
BPRT: When you think of Ohio State football, what comes to mind?
TF: Tradition, character, class, and championships.
BPRT: What position would you prefer to play in college and why?
TF: I would prefer to play slot receiver and have a chance to return punts and kicks. I think I am at my best when I have the football in my hands. That is how I help my team the best.
BPRT: This is your senior year...what goals have you set personally and for your team?
TF: For my team, a state championship. We saw how a local team, and our biggest rival, won one last year and we want to do the same. We have the talent and the coaching, but we just need to prepare during the off- season by working out and doing the right things. I really think we can do it. Personally, if we do what we want to as a team the personal things will come to me. We have been working for this since the 7th grade.
BPRT: When your career is over, how would you like people to remember Trey Fairchild?
TF: As a leader and a great teammate. Someone my teammates and coaches can count on and go to in the toughest situations, on and off the field.
BPRT: If you were analyzing yourself on film, what would you list as your strengths and what needs some work?
TF: My strengths are my speed, toughness, and leadership. I have good hands too and can make people miss. My weakness is probably route running. I am working hard in the off season with Reggie Germany on that. This will only be my second year as a slot. My position coach at Coffman, Coach Hicks and my head coach Coach Crabtree also help out a lot in that area and with my blocking. You have to block great to be a good slot and I take pride in that and making big plays.
BPRT: What are some of your favorite things to do away from football?
TF: I love to play paintball and some video games. I support other Coffman sports too and watch my sister do gymnastics. She is really good. I also attend 2-3 Bible studies a week and Coach Creager, who is our strength and conditioning coach and co-Defensive Coordinator, runs Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He helps my with my workouts and my Faith.
