Garrett Goebel is a Buckeye!!
As chronicled over the past few months on Buckeye Planet, Garrett Goebel is a young man who does not like the spotlight. On this huge day in his life, Garrett, as expected, made a simple phone call to announce his intentions. First, it was only Coach Dick Tressel...then to Coach Jim Tressel who quickly rounded up his staff for an enthusiastic welcome.
Garrett's Uncle Brian Goebel, known as XPunisher on Buckeye Planet, has been the coordinator for this recruitment...from getting out Garrett's film midway through his Junior season to today's announcement, Brian has been free with the current news in this situation. The BPRT just got off the phone with Mr. Goebel as he clarified a few things about today's announcement.
BPRT: What was the deciding factor for the Buckeyes?
BG: Deep down, Garrett has known it was Ohio State. There was always a comfort level and he always felt wanted by the Ohio State coaches. He felt that the staff and players were his friends. It wasn't always about football. Beyond the football and unbelievable facilities, Ohio State is made up of great people. They are special people. Quality people. Everyone is so down to Earth and friendly. When we were there in the spring, we spoke to guys who were in the NFL and on their way to the NFL. You would have never known that. They were all so friendly and humble.
BPRT: What was the difference between Ohio State and Michigan?
BG: Michigan just came in too late. We felt like we had to see the school to be sure, but Ohio State came in early and was always there.
BPRT: Any chance at all of a decommitment down the line?
BG: Absolutely not. Garrett is a man of his word.

Welcome Mr. Goebel! Thanks as always to the BP Recruiting Team, you guys always do such a great job. Thanks for all the hard work you guys put in. Your effort is always appreciated. Thanks for making this such a great site and as always GO BUCKS!

Great News About Garrett!!
This is great news. Garrett is a quality kid from a quality family. His father has instilled an incredible work ethic in Garrett and his wrestling background should serve him well at OSU. And he'll still get a chance to play at Michigan twice too!! I was with Garrett during his trip to Columbus in April and was likewise impressed with the entire coaching staff (especially Jim and Dick Tressel), the players, and the world class facility. What an outstanding environment! I applaud Garrett's choice and will look forward to seeing him in scarlet and gray in the autumn of 2008. Go Bucks!!

Great news...I was about to go to bed but felt compelled to check BP in case someone had committed...very odd but it paid off  Excellent addition and imo OSU just landed the most important recruit left on the board. Congrats to both Brian and Garrett.
